Any TV savants out there?
Looking to get a TV, primarily for movies - but a bit of gaming.
- obv 1080p / hd / quick refresh, the standard stuff
- i'd say no smaller than 65, it's a good space to fill
- budget, $1-1.5k
suggestions?

A Blu-Ray projector is dope.
My next flat screen investment will be the new warped ones. They look sexy as all get out.

I don't care what anyone says a projector does not deliver as sharp a picture

Does all of this matter?
Just get a big ass screen and watch stuff on it...any of them, doesn't matter.
Close your eyes and pick one.

Has the extra color like the other sharp quattrons and also puts out retina quality (says 4k but isn't.. still 2x as sharp as 1080 though)
edit: thought you said less than 65 not more

i can't with this thread
long debunked quattron nonsense
conflating technology (lcd) with delivery mechanism (projector lens vs panel type)
referencing apple's patented PPI on their smartphones / tablets as a "type of quality" (retina)
not understanding what sharpness is and deciding their exposure to a bargain basement "1080p projector" brand projector means fidelity is impossible to achieve outside of a traditional lcd panel
fuck it. listen to people who shop at best buy.

projectors are only good for theatre rooms
which I get it, you have one
it's the better deal and quality
not everyone wants to just watch shitin a dark room though

high lumen output projectors and high gain screens totally aren't a thing, you're right, there's a reason why there aren't millions of projectors in use in common living rooms throughout the world
(except that they are)

haven't seen one in use tbh
we had a projector in a theater room in my parents house growing up
I used it like 5% of thetime I viewed TV
just not my thing. newer ones might be dope in a lit room I guess

another issue I canthink of, just wondering what your experience is
namix has kids
kinect/wii and shit are very popular with kids
how does that shit work with like getting in front of the projector? I assume you can't have it to close to the wall (maybe you can now) but if it's back and kids are running around doing crazy wii and kinect shit (next thing is, can the sensor be at the wall without a lot of cords) won't they get in the way and make it so there's shadows in the picture?

Another downside to projectors is the need for a separate audio system. Obv no speakers come with it so u need to make a second purchase for sound. Which could get pricey in itself

It's nice having kind of shitty vision but not shitty enough to need glasses. I bought the cheapest 60-inch HDTV on the market, and I never notice any granule error or distortion. I also don't play video games, though.

I've heard that a million times knuckle and I disagree. My TVs speakers work just fine for me. I don't need to watch tv with a sub woofer providing bass. Or surround sound.
People waste a fuck load of money on that shit. I don't need an IMAX experience in my living room. Now a theater room or man cave yes but otherwise it's a waste

most projectors are ceiling hung. not an issue.
mine is behind a wall with a cutout. it is definitely taller than most people.

those things are just silly.

you advised someone to waste hundreds on a smart tv, a closed garden environment with no control outside of what the vendor gives you until their next batch is released and you are left with unsupported garbage.
you advised that in the era of chromecast, roku, firetv, etc.
nobody should buy anything but a basic tv with high pq if they aren't going the projector route. smart tvs are anything but.
Yeah except it's not. You're thinking of the current 4k and/or 3Dtelevisions.
And Chromecast is anything but reliable.
Regardless, projectors are at least three times the cost and don't do anything really at all.

you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. 4K and/or 3D has nothing to do with a canned, locked-in app suite that is severely underpowered and can only be updated by vendor firmware.
you also are clueless about anything related to a projector. a projector does the same thing a tv does. it displays a picture.
if you want to get into things like contrast ratio etc. then we can discuss. otherwise you are just... dumb.
lol @ chromecast being anything but reliable. how much easier can it possibly be? hdmi in. usb and/or ac in/ wifi on. same way a smart tv's shitty app system works but with the ability to customize and adapt, plus the bonus of mirroring any screen.
need more horsepower? roku, wd, firetv, etc. etc. etc.
fucking raspberry pi box

we have 9ft ceilings in the basement, and i already got a receiver with surround wired -- so im cool with the projector obstacles there
i still think a nice flat screen is probably the move for us at this point though
