INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH: 1916, EASTER REBELLION, IRELAND.
“You hammered them and in their desperation they turned... Some men just want to watch the world burn." - Topic 4.

Trade unionists and workers wait as night becomes dawn,
A small bespectacled man steps up to a wooden platform.

“Where the world is imperial, where the world is unfair,
Where the world hates the Irishman and where the world no longer cares -
We just want to watch that world burn.
Fuck the British Union! Disrespect and disregard,
The soul of man is here and now; we set ourselves this task -
We must carry out rebellion, independence in our hearts.
Cast aside our shadow and step out from the dark.
The sun never sets on the British empire; they have kept our lands divided,
Yet from Munster to the North, now we stand united –
The Lord’s divine hand is guided to protect the humble and the righteous,
While the world embroils herself in warfare we struggle against tyrants.
So many others are among our brothers,
Captain Jack White is our brother,
James Connolly is our brother,
James Larkin is our brother,
These men they are our brothers as Ireland is our mother.

We have been degraded and debased,
Dissuaded into docility, our name has been disgraced.
We must act with the greatest sense of haste,
The British armies are away, their navies are at bay.
The Englishman fights among the German and the Turk,
Our ranks are filled with volunteers, builders, fishermen and clerks,
We fight for every blade of grass, for every inch of land, for every speck of dirt.
Our true and beautiful country is the best upon this earth.

Stony grey soil reminds us of our birth, sweat from our brow,
Fields of green and fields of brown moulded by the plough,
Our tradition is renowned, from the Hill of Tara to the settlement at Glendalough,
Young Irishmen and women are working to protect their homes.
We too have gathered here this morning to tear this day asunder,
We have lived through the famine, survived the greatest hunger.
Our flesh is formed from clay, we are married to the rolling plains,
We will overthrow the Englishman and control our own domain.
We will rise up in the factories, in the countryside and the cities,
Throughout history our children’s children will remember 1916.
Ireland belongs to Ireland from this very moment forth,
Take up your arms in rebellion, for it is our holy cause."
