if we are going to do this we must first establish a great truth: the separation of what marriage is supposed to be, and what it currently is in todays time. fair?

Marriage in it's pure form represents the highest human relationship: a man and woman becoming one under God.

Marriage in it's todays form is a joke.

If you are against marriage in it's original form I will happily hearken unto your reasonings. I you are against marriage in todays' form I might call you a wise man.

I watched a movie about Sigmund Freud once and during a conversation with one of his acquaintances/patients(can't recall) the topic of love/marriage came up and the guy goes, "I couldn't possibly think of a more stressful concept."
I share that sentiment.

I accept marriage as the description you stated but the marriage of the bible is nowhere even close to what it is today, all marriage was supposed to be was two people dedicating their life to God and themselves, a promise or covenant, nothing more...nowadays it's like a prison sentence at times, it's designed to restrict free will and focuses far too much on the financial side of things...love should not be a legal matter imo it should not be a matter of contracts, and if you want to leave you should not be afraid to do so...marriage too often makes people afraid to leave, it keeps them trapped in an unhappy relationship in a lot of cases.

Of course, I'm sure there are plenty of happily married people...but it is still unnecessary to make it a legal matter, that was never in the bible, in the bible there were no contracts, just a promise made between man and woman in the presence of god.

So could it not be that the changing of marriage from a godly covenant to a state ran Ponzi scheme has made it worse then fox?

Perhaps this is a violation of church and state?

I disagree from an entirely non-religious perspective.

I don't think it should change the relationship at all and I don't think a "contract" or any sort of legal certificate is necessary, but I think that having a relationship with someone that's good enough that you're sure you want that person to be your life partner is worthy of a celebration with friends and fam.

So have the celebration, there's no need to make it a legal thing, which is what marriage is.

It's a legally binding contract...that is pointless imo.

both my marriages failed because both times we mistook being married for being in the kind of love that lasts forever. It was like we thought being married led to that kind of love, could force it. I'm not going to marry again unless it's to Whitney Peyton.

Just saw this.

I am not religious so I believe two people can live together as if they were married without having to make that covenant with their God and it doesn't make their relationship any less valid, but yes I do feel marriage these days has been made worse by the financial and legal aspects of it and perhaps the biblical definition is a better way to do it whether I agree with the existence of a God or not.

Not sure how the law operates in Ireland or the US but in Australia being married doesn't give a partner any entitlements that they didn't already have as a de facto in case of divorce.

pretty sure its been a matter of 'contracts' in some respects since registration began in 1837

marriage was seen as a business transaction between the father of the bride, and the father of the groom

it’s based on victorian male guardianship of adult women, when a woman is passed from the guardianship of one man to another

It's a legally binding contract...that is pointless imo.

it's not pointless imho

there are a few reasons why that wont apply to you NOW but may in the future

say you're an unmarried couple, living together, with seperate bank accounts

if one of you dies - the money in that account becomes property of your partners estate, it cant be withdrawn until their estate is settled

you may struggle paying for the funeral on your own seeing as the most basic cost £4-4500 now

its fairly morbid to think of the eventuality, but it happens

next lets say 'nationality'

depending on when the childs born, where the parents were born, and their immigration status at the time the child was born - AND THE PARENTS BEING MARRIED - this can have huge implications years later on the childs nationality as a result (say an asian family, child born in India, wanting to become a British citizen) the hoops they have to jump through are unbelievable

without boring the board with the work i do, trust me, those are two of the most important

the last i would like to add from a purely none legal perspective, is that marriage offers great benefits in terms of being associated with lower mortality risk, experience less depression, increases likelihood of affluence and greater sexual satisfaction

I'm not saying marriage can't be a good thing, I just don't think it's essential for a relationship but I'm guessing it's kinda cool to have a wife and be all like 'yo this my wife' so I'm not completely against it, I just don't know if it's for me...I'm young tho, and stupid, so I may be talking out of my ass lol

It's always only gonna be what you make it.

It's useless to say marriage means one thing or another, when we clearly see how it's "open to interpretation". Just look at open marriages and people getting married for citizenship, etc.

All you really gotta shoot for as finding a chick (or dude if you're teh faygot) who's idea of marriage matches up with yours.

It always fucks with my mind when I see niggas married to porn stars. This bitch is basically in a gangbang then gets glazed with moneyshots and some nigga is at home looking at the clock. How does that work?

I have thought about this, I don't think it's a marriage based on love...I honestly don't think it can be. I think it's some twisted form of ego...like some "I got the chick every dude wants to fuck" kind of shit.

I agree. It goes back to what I was sayin before, marriage is what you make it. Look at swingers and even worse, cuckolding ass niggas.

I just don't know how a dude marries a porn star and tries to sit down to a romantic candlelit dinner with a bitch that just became a chick-ka-bob between Mandingo and Lex the Impaler.

That bitch ain't even gonna be able to feel yo dick at all, duke.

we want the church to stay out of political policy aka the gays
but we want the state to be in charge of marriage.

V, you know I personally follow that code too but I am afraid it's too far gone for that now for most people out there. Pledging/promising/swearing something to God used to mean something. I mean, if a person put their hand on a Bible, you knew they wasn't bout to lie!!!! If someone was being misleading, telling you a fabricated story then you might be like "You promise???" and they be like "yes" then you be like "swear to God?" then they'd be like "Naw bro I can't do that". Those days have long since passed though. Even in the 50's and 60's people were getting married in churches, putting their hands on bibles and still eating their way through side pussy like Joe Metts in a straight jacket made of waffles with butter straps & syrup locks.

People will put stuff on God and lie their asses off, that's why the law had to step in.

I don't think we can go back, bro :(
