RIP.

You talk about people ahead of their time...none of them more so than David Bowie.

I'm just going to copy/paste my FB post:

So I literally, no hyperbole, just woke up from a dream in which I was listening to David Bowie while driving in a car down a dark road late at night. I grab my phone not even a full minute ago to find that one of the world's most amazing, gifted, bizarre, lovely, seemingly immortal talents has left this earthly coil.

To say our world is dimmer today is an understatement. Losing Lemmy and Bowie in a matter of weeks really puts things in perspective. We track our lives through the references of our memories and a cognitive dissonance that what has been will always be. I find myself letting go of that resistance with each creative flame that's snuffed out.

RIP David Bowie. There's a star man waiting in the sky.

Turns out it's you.

this shit punched me directly in the feels fr fr.

Bowie was the man. This thread makes me happy that people respect the man though. Like Witty said, the man was ahead of his time and will appeal to new generations for years to come.

RIP Ziggy

Yeah, that is pretty dope tbh. I stay doing shit like that too. Makes me want to draw a Bowie tribute of some sort.

RIP to Lemmy too.

He, among a select few others, changed what popular music could be, what a popular music star could be and what they could look like, he paved the way for so many different cultures to come through.

My favorite musical acts of all time:

1. Prince
2. OutKast
3. Miles Davis
4. David Bowie
5. Bruce Springsteen

★ (Blackstar), his new album, is amazing. I've now listened to it three times, once before he died and twice since. I think it's his best since Scary Monsters in 1980.

The Roots are going to perform in a tribute concert for him. It was originally going to be a celebration of his career, not his life.

Did you see they confirmed the album was written with his impending death in mind?

The video for Lazarus was shot as his official goodbye.

Creating art until the very end.

The lyrics seemed death-inspired on Friday. By Sunday night, the full impact was obvious.

He didn't die. He's just returned to his home planet.

I wrote my Winter Topical verse for him.

respect to the man. I never got too heavy into his music tbh, but my fiance is a big fan, and it's heavy to think that one day my heroes, too, will die. will give Blackstar a listen this week.

admittedly all I know of david bowie is that song about ..Soyuz hatches ..major tom..someshit(which was beautiful)...but I can tell why he has impacted so many people. he seemed eccentric at first glance

It's definitely the most jazz-oriented album he has, so I get why you would say that. But still, man. Maybe "Heroes" or Lodger would suit you?

An album doesn't have to be 'jazz oriented' for me to like it. I kind of dug Low but tbh I just find his music to be enjoyable tunes with an okay band... I also didn't really hear much 'jazz' stuff here outside of an emphasis on improv which is always cool

But yeah

Cool tunes but I never really dug his versions

Stuff like Glasper and Bilal playing Letter to Hermione is dope though

i've only really listened to the berlin trilogy (and a bunch of random tracks you can't help hearing) but bowie was a creative motherfucker. good nikola tesla, too. peace.
