View Full Version : if you were to drop your debut album...
and you could only work with one beatmaker/producer, who would it be? I mean this in the sense of, which major producer makes beats that would actually fit your style of writing/rapping?

i thought i'd be cool and say Kanye West but Certain is a dick about beating me in terms of posts where we'd both say Kanye West.
If I were to make a rap album I would pick Kanye West.
If Certain picked Kanye first then I'd go with 9th Wonder. idk if he's even dope anymore? I enjoyed Threats.
Failing that, me and Oats would drop a spoken word record over ambient uh-oh beats and become legends among the indie community.

People sleep on nottz. I havent listened to his new shit with asher roth but im consistently blown away on a daoly basis from his instagram.
He posts like 3-10 legit bangers every single day. And theyre all crazy. The way he structures shit. Pete rock said it best when he gave it up to him. Dudes an alien. His drum programming and basslines are ridiculous, sample chops across the board he pushes boundaries. No one gives a shit tho smh lol

But also the only valid answer is Kanye West.
Unless you don't care about the combination of money and artistic credibility.

Nicolay. Vintage Nicolay. Before Foreign Exchange became a whole band.
Kno. I always pre-order CunninLynguists albums to get the instrumentals.
6th Sense. Mad slept on. I've literally only heard a handful of the actual artists he produces for, but his instrumental mixtapes are CRAZY
Hannibal King. I actually have recorded mad joints over Hannibal King beats over the last 4-5 years that never saw the light of day.

Oh word. I know it. Shits fire.
Lol John Connor put it on his kanye tape that was supposedly all kanye beats ha

Alot of kanye beats the past 5 years or so have been collabs and shit too. That beat was all nottz tho. I know he has havoc do drums on alot of shit. He still does beats himself but hes smart enough to get others in to do shit too. Kanyes beats nowadays are weirdo shit.
I remember reading pretty recently whatever his last single was it was a frank dukes composition, someone else chopped and arranged that i forget now lol, and havoc did the drums.
But yea kanye fell off in my opinion. Not just because im not a fan of what he personally makes but from a technical soundpoint his shit is dumbed down crazy. Every now and then he can put a heater out tho

What do you think of the DJ Premier beat on Jeru the Damaja's "Come Clean"? I remember when I first heard "Numbers on the Board," that's what it reminded me of.

Also, a big part of my logic is that the closest Kanye West has ever come to producing a full album for anyone other than himself is Common's Be (which had two Dilla tracks). If you had an entire debut album produced by him, that shit would have to be monumental. He wouldn't put his name on it like that otherwise.
uh-oh
02-06-2016, 03:11 PM
Word. I like that pusha beat better than the jeru beat btw.
Be was still well within yeezys prime. Im sure he would make some banging shit hes still a beast, he just dumbed his shit down and thats what i mean by he fell off. Not that his skills fell off as much as he aint making super complex dope shit to impress his peers as much as just making dope pop hip hop to impress the masses
Its still talent just not what i prefer.
I like havoc beats
id have to say him for debut. But hed have to get gritty old school shit

Technically a mixtape, but you're right.
Either way, it's been more than a decade. I'll be the 2010s Consequence any day.
