I believe Royce 5'9 will be that rapper. When I think of Royce I get the big l and big pun vibe. As in they didn't get the lyrical respect they deserved till they died. This is just my opinion and just felt like talking about it..

Problem is tho.....pun and big L were on their way to reaching their prime when they passed......Royce is past his arguably
I don't think any1 would argue his technical abilities on the mic tho......if he died tomorrow I dont think he'd be viewed in the same light as them. Personally.

Thing is I never heard of big l till he died. Pun wasn't seen as a lyrical rapper to me because all I heard was the radio hits. It wasn't till he died and y'all pointed me to his other stuff that I recognized his lyrical abilities. I feel that's what is going to happen with Royce because I be looking at niggas sideways when I mention Royce and they don't know who he is. All talk about big Sean and let's be honest he the lowest on the totem pole when it comes to Detroit. It won't be till he passes away that his music will be seen as legendary. He even said it in one of his songs.

Truth be told, Respect the Shooter is a fucking masterpiece.
A rapper I think might one day be viewed differently posthumously is Currency. Large catalogue and a very unique style.

big sean gets mentioned because he makes good songs. people know DANNY BROWN more than they know royce lol. and its because again, he makes good songs.
royce is lightyears ahead of both, but he makes shitty songs. his best breakthrough song was boom. everything else was ZZZZZ. its not because he doesn't have bars, its because everyone has bars. just hip hop speaking though. not mainstream rap speaking because literally at this point in time none of them do. drake is the most "lyrical" for lack of a better word and he don't even write.
what im getting at is big L and big pun get that respect because they were bodying shit when even the people who were looked at as technical were just ok. meanwhile big L fathered the writing style that philly ran with. and others. the setup punch really, dope couplets. pun would just flat out spaz.
i mean sure there was dudes like G rap and all them too but g raps still alive spitting mumble dopeness when he wants too blah blah
my main point is royce is an animal with the pen for sure, but he piggy backs off em's corniness at times, and goes for comical bars which is cool but i mean he could be ruthless. thats my only problem with it, and he doesnt make music with a wider appeal like a dude like pun did. big L didnt either though, his mainstream type songs were booty. but again L stood out because who else could be compared at the time
royce will be looked back on in history as a crazy proficient lyricist. no doubt. but he's just not put in that category cuz there is a sea of dudes that can spaz and he's just one of them. he never says anything thought provoking, at least to me, he says clever shit, but its clever because its rhymed cleverly, the content is whatever.
but yea i dunno. royce never did it for me though. he can have ridiculous verses here and there but listening to him as just him was blah
and no one was more hype for phryme than me lol. thats when i gave up on him.
