..they might still be around.. And the collabs. Oh my the collabs. Smh. What a waste. I mean pac manages to get tons of material out. More dope material and more consistent than any other rapper you can name... But damn had they both managed to stay alive and actually been on the same team. What an album that would have been. Smh.

I don't understand how Pac was more consistent than any other emcee I could name.

He had a lot of dope songs...but he also had a significant amount of not so great songs.

Yea but there are some gems scattered in his vast discography though.

pac lost his steam to me when everyone around you has Pac on like daily...either that or Bone Thugs or Tech N9ne or Mac Dre.

Ugh just thinking about all that makes my stomach turn

Ah hell.

Listen.

Pacs 6 or so post mortem albums can still be put in any type of playlist today and only improve it. I say 6 because i dont know how many post mortem albums he actually has. Its a lot though.

Realizing he is dead and put out strong albums till what, 2008? 2009? At least 10 years after death?

If hova died today his current catalogue is exactly all that would remain. Pac had a lot left in him.

Biggie did too, but pacs work ethic transcended his life.

Cmon man

Last year I downloaded a 10 disc collection of just mixtape tracks, freestyles & appearances ALONE.

On top of that he has wat.....12 albums?

An are we really acting like he doesn't have throwaway shit that would never see the light of day unless he died tomorrow... same as pac?

Absurd.

EVEN IF HE DIDNT.....his catalogue extends much further then pacs......and really to say pac would've stayed consistent is just an assumption also......them post mortem albums ain't great ....one or 2 of em r good....

I could go on....but he's just no Jay. Jay is the goat.

I don't even disagree at all. You can be great but not consistent. Most greats are. Prince, my favorite musician of all time by far, was very inconsistent throughout his career. Both 2Pac and Prince are defined more by their ambition and the desire to be great at everything. That's what sets them apart and makes them so much more culturally relevant.

Thug Life wasn't good. 2Pacalypse Now and Strictly 4 My NIGGAZ were up and down, though I like both. Me Against the World, All Eyez on Me Disc 1 and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory are unimpeachable, though, particularly Me Against the World.

Gang Starr was wildly consistent, almost irrationally so. The reason for that was in no small part because they stuck with the formulas that worked. Both DJ Premier (on things like Jeru the Damaja's debut and MOP tracks) and Guru (on Jazzmatazz) experimented a lot outside the group. But when they got together, it was all about putting out the vintage stuff.

Uhh can you please factor in this catalogue we speak of was made pre 1996. Anything jay did after that was not directly in competition with pac.

If the dead dont get some kind of handicap then sure jay z the goat. But hes over 40 and got an extra 15+ years in the game since hes not around. And even if it was a fact jay the best by those standards pac still right up there with him.

Guru never deviated from his home flow and Premier never strayed from his comfortable boom bap..

There's no redeeming the number of bad guest spots on Disc 2. There's just not. 2Pac surrounded himself with a lot of bad rappers (and a few good rappers, most of whom showed up on Disc 1).

"Picture Me Rollin'" and "All Eyez on Me" are the best tracks on Disc 2, though. "Cant C Me" probably is third. But I mean there's a fucking E-40 verse on that shit.

uh-oh
09-11-2016, 01:13 AM
literally everything on disc 2 SLAPS

people think jay z's dynasty album is trash because of all the guest spots. people are retarded

are the songs dope? thats all that matters

the guest spots on disc 2 don't effect any of it to me. im just not a fan of the bitch singers on it but ive already burned the verses in my mind so i can still enjoy those tracks too

shits dope.

You base your taste on nostalgia. "Thug Passion"? Really, though?

And as I've said before, I don't mind people calling 2Pac the greatest ever. To me, he and Jay Z are the starting point for that discussion. (I mean, there are only like 100 Notorious B.I.G. songs, simply not enough.) 2Pac and Jay Z both have plenty of shitty songs, though. For some people, hearing a 2Pac or Jay Z verse is good enough, and I can respect that. Shit, I kind of envy that.

If we are debating goat status we are talking about every aspect..........all ur really awarding pac with for having made a shit ton of music in a small period of time is work erhic...an possibly skillset....ant the end of the day tho both of their entire catalogue would have to be looked at.....antmd Jays is bigger and honestly in its totality is better.

Yes. He released 39 studio albums over 38 years. Some of them — at least five or so, most from after 1995 — were not good. Listen to Come or N.E.W.S. or Planet Earth if you don't believe me. But even a good album like Controversy was a clear step down from the other work he put out in the early 1980s.

Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain and Sign 'O' the Times stand very tall in the Prince discography. Every Prince fan has another two or three albums they put on that level — for me, Parade and The Love Symbol Album — but those are the four unanimously agreed-upon classics in a 39-album discography.
