We just had a wildly unsuccessful topical tournament. What's the point of another one?? Topical community proves itself again and again to not give a fuck if they're not personally involved. Leagues are far better for topicals because no one is eliminated, therefore everyone stays engaged.

it needed the losers to vote. and the winners to not be too comfortable with their cushions and vote. it needed people to vote, basically.
oh, and show. fuck. but like, there's a causal relationship between those two, i'm sure.

Yea, but it's not just that tourney, its every topical tourney. It needs to go league style, 12 weeks or whatever, and whoever had the top two records or whoever had the top two longest champ reigns get to face off in a one-match playoff. Or something like that - it'll avoid voter exhaustion and curb indifference. I'm just saying there's no evidence that people stick around and vote after they're eliminated, so what's the point in crossing fingers and hoping it happens for once.

The first Winter Topical had strong voting throughout, aside from the championship. Most tournaments, topical or ortherwise, have good voting until that particular round. For various reasons.
As for another Winter Topical, I don't know. The strong start but horrid finish to the STI gives me pause. What gives me more pause, though, is the state of the site. Everything is dead. Even if we were to gather 32 participants, I imagine the voting would be absolutely dismal. The turnout would be bad, for showing.
