He is imo, a great artist and an admirable person, but is he relevant in hip hop?

Pretty much. Life Is Good is still a dope ass album to me. I rather him drop an album every 2-3 years and have it be really good then drop an okay album every year.

Go.
That's like asking is Aero relevant to textceeing. He'll always be recognized as a great but he doesn't have to aim for relevancy. He's a staple & a legend.

Well if we are gonna play personal...He is relevant to me I bump Illmatic once every couple of months
Otherwise for this day and age no...
After all the 'Young' & 'Lil's have taken over
No, he is not relevant. Barely any actual influence aside from his old stuff, which only old heads and crate diggers care for.

The dude still has the creative mind of a writer that surpasses most mcs and writers in the game, I won't even mention rappers. Dudes got song concepts niggas can't even come up with and the storytelling???? Come now lol
So inturn, the title should be, why does nas still think it's relevant for him to rap?

U don't deserve to listen to hip hop
U don't deserve to listen to hip hop
Hahaha haha! Did you listen to Nas' last album? What year was it released in? He's not mainstream relevant he's an icon and staple but he is not relevant/influential on the current ideology of rap which is leaning more towards melodic funk/jazz/soul or trap/drug-culture neither of those sounds are up his alley... both lanes are what is right relevant now.

Funk/Jazz has been a staple in Hip Hop for a long ass time though....So has dry culture....So...what?
Nas doesn't do it. While he may have rapped over samples most relevant albums have carried heavy funk influences on the more than 2-3 tracks. Nas can write his ass off but as far as albums, staying current in the MINDS of the masses he does not do that, Nas has not been relevant in a while, he has been dope, he has written strong tracks but very few people will say that he is impact full or that he even wants to be. And just to be clear Nas is in my top 5, that however doesn't make him relevant NOW, th e most relevant thing he's done is rap as a narrator's siholutte in 'The Get Down' on Netflix.
