AOWL Season 8 – Week 6 – “Here We Come…”

Intro

Ok so here we all are once again… and just to re-cap, the whole site is recovering after a crash that was I think due to an issue with our hosts, so the sad news is we’ve lost all of the data from the first 5 weeks of the season... We still have the records, but the actual battles and verses themselves have all been lost – which is pretty gutting to be honest.

But here we are, ready to go again and pick up from where we finished off, and not only that but keep going until someone somewhere somehow is crowned AOWL Season 8 Champ! If you’ve been a part of this season up to this point, then please re-join us with your record in tact. If you haven’t had any part to play in this season yet then please jump right in because there’s still plenty to play for at this point. The previous No Show Hall of Shame will be wiped out, so it will be a clean slate in that respect, but the losses will still count and the NSHoS will re-commence from this week onwards.

Because of all of the data we lost, my proposal is that anyone who has been involved in this season, as the regular season draws to a close (whenever that may be), will all be invited to submit any verse that was lost (if you’ve saved them to Word or Notepad or whatever) and then we will pick our favourites from the season so at least those won’t need to be lost to us completely and then you can get appropriately honoured as we celebrate a pretty crazy kinda season, even by our standards. I think that’s probably the best we can do.

Other than that, we can’t look back too much, but we can look forward and we’ll do that with some predictions for the battles coming up in Week 6…

Predictions

Veritas vs Maximus

So I think that Veritas’ intentions are quite noble, in that he’s trying to kick up enough dust to get the rest of the site going again. That kinda feels like Mission Impossible given that laziness in embedded deep into the very beings of once great writers, but you know, I’ma support you all of the way. As for a topical writer, I think you’ve been around long enough to know what’s what. Your recent pieces have maybe given you a bit more of an idea of what is required, but I honestly don’t really know quite what you’ve got yet.

Maximus, I don’t really know too well as a writer but I do that dude’s a capable battler and from what you’ve already dropped in this league, I think you’re probably a very capable topicalist too, just maybe needing a little bit more time to give to your verses.

Difficult to call considering I haven’t seen too much of either of you, but I’ll Maximus the slight edge in this 60/40.

Adonis vs Mr. J

Adonis is one of the most established topicalists in the league, who’s got the work ethic to accompany the talent. Looking forward to what you’re gonna bring. That verse that you did last season based on your old school hip hop influences was probably my fave verse in the whole season. A latecomer to this season but a quick ascent to the top of the rankings in well within capabilities.

Mr. J, ever the enigma. Just peeped your recent drop in the Open Mic, which was a great little flex. I still feel that you save most of your best work for the OM, rather than the AOWL, which I don’t fully understand, but I guess probably timing as much as anything? Well capable of doing great things, but we so rarely see it in the AOWL setting. I’m trying to ignite some motivation in you right now!

I’d expect Adonis to take this match-up, but with Mr. J, you just never know. 70/30 to Donny.


Witty vs Tha Pastor Reach Yeah

I won’t predict the outcome of this but you know, 90/10 to me. Just kidding. Witty is prob one of my favourite topical writers at the moment. I’m a sucker for rhyming and this dude is just great at rhyming – everything just seems to hit the spot, adding in a bit of maturity in creativity and you’ve got a real contender. If you can stay motivated and want it enough, I’d expect you to be right up there after all the dust settles down. This should be good.

Razah vs 2tripple0

Razah is a good writer, remembering back to last season. I sensed a little flicker of desire in his recent claim to not feeling motivated to write/compete so I'm glad to see that he's decided to go for it. He's definitely got a lot to offer and could easily get himself into contention. 2trip is as willing as ever and if he keeps improving then one of these years he's gonna cause some trouble.

Razah is full of confidence, looking hungry and in the mood to cause some damage so I'm gonna go 50/50 for an either way split!

The beginning is the end is the beginning… AOWL Season 8 part 2 is now officially up and running, and it feels so good to be back! Hopefully we can build something really good out of the wreckage of the lost data and everything, which I think probably hurt everyone on the site. But you know, there's no time to feel sorry for ourselves, there’s a championship at stake here. That accomplishment that gets added to your profile just can’t be bought. Its gotta be earned. I still haven’t had mine re-added yet and I feel kinda naked without it. I don’t really know what I’m talking about now or where I'm going with this. If I'm honest, I think I probably got lost somewhere in the intro!

tbh most weeks when I come to start on my verse I really don't feel like it, like really really don't feel like it, but after getting over that initial can't be bothered feeling and when I get a few lines that I like, thats the hardest part overcome.

Basically, starting is the hardest part of writing.
