Calling that first song simple is indicative of your tastes, which I thought were superior.

The second song is just a well made, if derivative, radio play.

maybe I would like a different song by the first group, sounded too much like Modest Mouse run through a Against Me! filtration system

The correct condescending insult is to say it's the crescendo of a Godspeed! track met with a Broken Social Scene melody. The Modest Mouse reference is completely wrong, and I don't know Against Me!. This has a soul, though. Sharp Nine is just a music by numbers elitist.

I hope this complex enough for Sharp Eight.

have been getting off my year long rap binge, and going back to indie/ folk. but that also includes electronic? idk basically not pop.

don't know Godspeed You because my hopelessly hipster elitist screamo band frontman friend who is attending Emerson can't recommend them enough, and I can't will myself to give them a spin

Godspeed is good. Takes a lot of bullshit to get through to the amazing, orgasm parts. But the build up is necessary. Their place as ultra-indie hurts them for exposure. Even hipsters won't admit to liking them if they're meta-hipster.

The one with the pink album cover was pretty good.. can't understand the lyrics over the Patriots game but the instrument work is nice.

fun fact: the misc tricked me into half a days worth of writing *quality* song reviews for poverty artists for half of minimum wage, because they couldn't deal with my harsh, realistic criticism. brb can't cash out earnings til $10. brb your review got $0.07 because you compared them to an autistic Jason Aldean. brb if your style was any more commercial you'd wake up screaming, reincarnated as a Dodge Ram advertisement. brb not my fault your mom chainsmoked NyQuil blunts during pregnancy.

You can't understand the lyrics because you have human ears.

But Deafheaven is one of my favorite new bands. And weirdly, if you look up the lyrics, they're really good. Here's "Dream House":

Hindered by sober restlessness.
Submitting to the amber crutch.
The theme in my aching prose.
Fantasizing the sight of Manhattan;
That pour of a bitter red being that escapes a thin frame. The rebirth of mutual love.
The slipping on gloves to lay tenderly.

"I'm dying."
- "Is it blissful?"
"It's like a dream."
- "I want to dream."

My favorite song off the album is the title track.

Held my breath and dAnnotaterove through a maze of wealthy homes. I watched how green the trees were. I watched the steep walkways and the white fences. I gripped the wheel. I sweated against the leather. I watched the dogs twist through the wealthy garden. I watched you lay on a towel in grass that exceeded the height of your legs. I gazed into reflective eyes. I cried against an ocean of light.

Crippled by the cushion, I sank into sheets frozen by rose pedal toes. My back shivered for your pressed granite nails. Dishonest and ugly through the space in my teeth. Break bones down to yellow and crush gums into blood. The hardest part for the weak was stroking your fingers with rings full of teeth..

It's 5 A.M...and my heart flourishes at each passing moment.

Always and forever.
