Where did we go wrong? What can be done to create a general interest in the community again without it being a disappointing txt league?

The podcast were a revival that turned out to be a slow working poison, but it didn't have to be. And there must be other ways to get something worth viewing happening

the most crippling damage this site has taken has been the multiple site crashes

people get discouraged when months of progress are lost

everytime the site has crashed we have lost key members and even nobodys that just provided bodys to contribute

as it stands we have a core group of like 20 people that either don't like most of eachother or are simply bored of the others by having seen them post for nearly 10 yrs.

for me the exchange of time vs gratification or even appreciation is just not sufficient

too many times we let horrible off-putting shitposters linger on the board until they start to force good members to lose interest in logging in under the guise of some stupid wild west persona that nc lost 3 years ago


you still have text battlers and topical writers that ghost the board and would log in instantly if they saw a league operating successfully with detailed mags consistently for multiple weeks...but people refuse to work together to achieve this and nobody is willing to dedicate themselves on their own to this type of obligation...especially to a bunch of thankless dickheads who typically cant even reciprocate by participating in the league with verses and votes properly.

as far as the podcast...the site crash was a huge blow but the lack of vision of the majority of this site was equally crippling...the first podcast had 3k views in a day and despite every fucking thing we said in the podcast about moving away from text and making the site more mainstream sharp nine takes the energy and starts a text tournament and then starts a war with the podcast forcing a division of views

I dont use social media outside of twitter, and thankfully the format of 140 characters limits any real discussion

I would post alot more if more things happening in the world were discussed here. But you guys would rather just login every day and post nothing worth commenting on, and then when there is a 15 plus page discussion you hate on it and wonder why the site is dead

At least for newcomers and myself included a little bit more diversity in members would be cool but most of those are pushed away from the site. The rep thing is a little bit off putting as well I guess, some people might feel like posting less or stay away from alternative/entertaining topics (even if they're bad it can lead to some humor) if it means they'll get a bad rep. Most people probably give a shit about the rep but I can see how it may affect some peoples boarding habits and/or making them think they're unwanted and eventually ghosts/leaves the site.

The mob mentality of Netcees is a bit too much to garner new members to the point where they get the community and can join in on it in a healthier manner. There was a time when roasting people almost was some sort of initiation, then when everyone was roasted whoever new came along got the same shit. For someone who don't know how we joke around here (only joins the tournaments or haven't been too active in general), or are new, it's definitely a good reason not to come back for more. Even potential new members checking out the site may not even register if they'd see how new members are treated.

Also putting more effort into helpful votes on new people trying to improve will make them stay as well. When battles get no real votes it may take motivation away from people unless mags are done and people get some shine. I don't know about you guys but if I know a league/tournament got a decent mag going I'm more inclined to join because I for sure love a little bit of attention, lol, along with reading the rest of the mags and what people got say about different battles, interviews, wtf's etc.

I'd love to say ''hey, I can join in and do my part!'' but that's not me atm, I'm not invested enough in the site to do that yet/anymore. I can post more in disc though.

If any of you have a username on RMBVA / OTBVA / r/rapbattles, promote the site in inconspicuous ways like having the site address in your signature.

RuinYourDay and DirtBagDan have Live shows at least once or twice a week that has a live chatroom with anywhere from 200-500 people in that that are interested in battle rap - use that chatroom platform to advertise in it.

I'm sure there are more ways to get this place more active, but those are possibilities, and that just takes people that are willing to do it.

I was on Rb when they decided to do this.

It went ok at first and tbh with dedicated peeps doing this
It can be successful and garner some new members.

But it all goes back to people just showing up.

I don't know how well money tournaments do this day in age, but back on UPN when one was tried it was done very well with next to no no-shows. (777 Tournament)

But that was also during the hey-day of text battles in general. I would gladly give anywhere from $50 to $100 towards major tournaments ran 4 times a year. Preferably during each season.

I agree with Knuck that this site needs to become a lot more secure to prevent all those shut-downs from occuring. I don't know what that would take but I'd be willing to invest in that as well.
