I got an offer for a manager spot at a TPR store
Need to get the dude to come up about 5k though
I suck at this type of shit. I know that what I want is reasonable though
Anyone good at this shit have any tips?

Do some research.

When I left DOL-OSHA And joined the corporate world - I conducted a lot of research in to salaries for someone in my position with my level of education and experience.

I have a PDF salary guide but it's mainly NY... Not sure where you live but I'm sure you could find the same guide but for your state and try and start there?

Generally you want to go a minimum of 10. 1st Find out what someone in that position makes or a general average. Weigh your options whether all of the PRO's of the position and CONS - long term.

But find out the base salary and typically go 10k above that. If your only looking for 5k because it's what you want and content with, then start off at 10k - Companies are always going to try and low ball you. If you have stats and statistics to back the promotion then they may still try and low ball you. So if your looking for ONLY 5k then begin with 10k and work down from there, you will most likely meet you half way which end result is what you want.

I’m comfortable selling phones because I can sell on knowledge alone
I probably would not be comfortable selling cars.
Phones pretty much sell themselves.

You don’t need to know how to sell at all, the sales in retail are shit anyway in terms of how the training would translate to anything that really NEEDED to be sold

No interview. Talked to the guy on the phone once
He sent me an offer letter this morning through email

First of all look at salaries for similar roles with other companies. See where you stand. Justify why your worth it. Look at the areas you can improve. Have a plan of how your gonna achieve those improvements. Worst comes to worst set achievable improvements and get them to incentivise you. It's a lot more low risk for them and will be worth it for them if achieved.

do you WANT or do you NEED?

if you just want, then you are willing to settle.

If you're all like THIS IS THE AMOUNT THAT I NEED, then you will get it or you will dip. I wouldn't waste time, if I was after a set amount and/or thought I was worth said amount or felt I could get said amount elsewhere. Sounds like you're willing to take less, but want to look confident negotiating???
