View Full Version : Is there actual logic behind apple vs pc/android
uh-oh
06-04-2018, 10:15 PM
Without being a person who sides with one or the other can it be explained logically?
Ive messed with macs and pcs, never had an iphone tho but there is the misconception of it being because its a price thing which never made sense to me, but i usually always get the stupid expensive android. It was never a non conformist type thing tho on some fuck iphones it was just at the time the note had a giant screen, so i stayed with those a few generations. Then i got the LG because it came with a free 49" tv and a google home lol
But word is it just preference or is there actual specs and shit that make one better
Cuz i look at like 2800 dollar macs that are 2 generations behind in everything but somehow theyre perceived as workhorses that shit on everything. But lets say its all equal, like you build a pc for 1300 with the same everything
Is the apple product better or is it just marketing and our desire to be part of a team
uh-oh
06-04-2018, 10:19 PM
Basically asking cuz im probably going to get an iphone so i can get the laughable app
and im thinking of building a dedicated studio outside of my gaming/office so im not distracted when i want to make beats
And that was like the go to as a kid in high school on some oh your building a studio you need a mac mannnn
So is there truth to it or what

Big and little differences. Mostly in exclusive hardware and software.
Like Macs are great because you can have an iPad and iPhone and HomePod all linked together and be part of the “apple ecosystem”. iMessage throughout them etc.
If you do music or video editing macs have logic and Final Cut Pro.
But they’re overpriced for those features. Technically speaking they aren’t that much more expensive hardware wise they just use hardware a lot of people don’t justify. A big piece of their prices involve their 5k displays.
PC and android give you the ability to create your own ecosystem but there isn’t a combination that works as fluid as having all apple products. You have a wide price range and style choices. Can custom build. Semi open source. It’s not any better permfocmance wise just a bit more free. But like with most things freedom means little hiccups and rough edges.
People buying apple products to seem elitist has been dead (or at least in the eye of an outsider) for a long time lol. Aside from the X the flagships have all been in line with Samsung/Google/LG and are all pretty similar.
I use an iPhone X and OG Pixel. My PC has 3 480gb SSDs that house a hackintosh build, windows 10 and Linux. I use everything and like what they offer.
There’s more but that’s as brief as I felt I could be

You buy a Mac for work at a company that uses Final Cut or Logic/develops for iOS
Or if you just like MacBooks. But there is no reason other than personal preference to buy a Mac other than those reasons.
Actual computer scientist (coders/developers yada yada) mostly work with Linux. Some will use MacBooks since it is Unix based but 99% of people I know that work in tech use a generic branded laptop with a linux distro

Common misconception. It's not more difficult to break, people just don't try to break MacOS usually. Most "hacking" is just people reusing public code to get access to peoples computers through spam/torrents. There is no magic code that would be effective on a PC and Mac, so since the vast majority of computer users are on Windows, those "hackers" use code that works with Windows.
On top of usage, the people that DO use MacOS usually can afford pretty much any music/software they want and are not the type to get viruses anyway

I use Steam to play games
I code C# in Unity for game dev. I'm working on a little mobile game myself, and am doing a 2D top down civ/rpg with a friend and some other outsiders here and there.
It's not for everyone, but pretty much if you can get over the hurdle of learning moderate coding you will snowball into more complicated stuff. A looott of people fall on their faces thinking coding is easy and a nice new way to make lots of money.

I wouldn’t say they’re more current than other languages, they just show up in easy money situations for me. Python is used in a lot of business cases and Ruby is equally simple and for some reason wicked popular with web apps so a lot of tech wannabes get freelance help with ruby. Basically those two cover simple projects for old and young clientele. I know java and SQL too pretty well but those jobs are usually more involved than I want to be.
I use C# because I like unity. Otherwise I’d prefer Java. They’re basically the same though.

As a user of all 3 platforms, iPhone is the best OS on a mobile. Android phones never last me more than 12-18 months (no physical damage done) I’ve had iPhone for almost 3 years now and it still runs like day 1
Mac is great for any media editing

so basically the mac isn't magically better because it costs more?
i know its the industry standard or was for video/audio editing, i just didn't understand why considering the specs are limited to what generation of mac you are buying. like video editing or rendering work has to be faster on pc when you can load in tons of top of the line graphics cards for instance, and have the best processor available. same with audio but basically near limitless ram and shit
i guess its more so for compatibilty with working/collaborating. if everyone is using mac programs you need a mac to access the programs/saves and shit
i'll probably just end up building another monstrous pc and use it as my new gaming pc and keep this one for music since its still more than capable.
i remember discussing how audio production can tax the system with people on here and them thinking i went way overkill with my i7 and 32gb of ram, meanwhile its not hard to redline this system by overdoing it with plugins and voices.
i think alot of these conversations get muddied with hearsay instead of experience. like people hear mac is better for production efforts and just assume there is a reason
but if its just because macs have logic that makes 0 sense since its just a random DAW. no better than any other DAW, and the macs system specs can be great but not upgradeable and not better than anything you can get for pc
but word i'll probably get an iphone though, android has been perfect for me, i still have my note 2 which i use now to listen to podcasts at work and i tether it to my pc at home for internet. leeching my neighbors high speed wifi. but yea i just got an lg g6 phone, phone. which i've encountered no problems with. got like 4 months left on my 2 year thing when that runs out i'll probably get whatever the best iphone is at that time. the only downside i've found having android these years is literally the one app i want neglecting to release itself for android.

It's just another thing that helps perpetuate what we've been brainwashed to believe ever since before we could talk.
Good vs. evil, Democrat vs. Republicans, coke vs. Pepsi, red vs. blue, cat people vs. Dog people, Mac vs. pc, Trump vs. Hillary, ranch vs Bleu cheese, hotdog vs. hamburger, grilled vs. fried, white vs. black, etc.
It's a a contribution to the illusion that you only have two choices. If you only have two choices, the one person that owns it all will get your money regardless. We've been getting farmed our whole lives.
Apple > Android.
Just heard Apple got that theft of software over turned finally. It was actually Samsung who stole technology from Apple then tried to accuse Apple of stealing their technology LOL.
Now Samsung must pay apple a few billion.

I mainly use my X and just test android stuff when I need to on the pixel. It’s an awesome phone and at this point they’re all the same and apple just feels so well integrated. Not really interested in being over the top customizable anymore, but we’ll see if I’ll get the itch for it again

Android is like 5% similar to what it was then lol
It’s a technically better system than iOS. iOS just has a better ecosystem attached to it. More universal since they’re all the same, where with android the hardware companies through in bloatware and shitty add one and replaces stock apps with theirs.
I’ll switch back most likely for the Pixel 3, just wanted a new experience. Same old same old got boring

Lol shitty third party adware apps on android though. And the 'only' argument for Apple is it has an edge on everything across the board as far as components, some marginal, but a landlside in the chipset/CPU. Samsung/Google literally have to add 2-3GB more of RAM to come close to the benchmarks of even an iPhone 7+..

I do like a Mac, used one at work every day to separate graphic art work design which just means j had to fix, change/alter graphics etc and it definitely seemed a lot more easier and faster on a Mac as opposed to my PC but my PC isn't top end any more either. But I hear a lot of people say they like Macs over PC for audio engineering and graphic work.
