Floyd on another level no doubt
Radiohead doesn’t exist without Pink Floyd coming before them
Listen to the Embryo live at the BBC track for some dope Floyd
Echoes is ridiculous
Any color you like from dark side may be my favorite
Of Course there’s always wish you were here too
And animals
no one touches this band or even comes close

Never would have taken you as a Pink Floyd fan tbh, whatever that means.

The Dark Side of the Moon is possibly the greatest album of all time.

Never got too into them tbh. A lot of their music holds up alright, but I guess I was just born too late to be impressed or interested

This shit though...

im a white dude raised by a literal hippie mother

i was inundated by this as a youth. i just tend to assume things of others based on myself. figured pink floyd was the most common of knowledge. they were dope.

I'm gonna need a more in-depth description of brilliance

I'll give you good songwriter in David Gilmour, and influential, but psychedelic soft rock with depressing lyrics isn't really that major

And age has a lot to do with it. It's culture. Meaning by the time I was born, there were about two generations of artists who had some level of engagement with music of that Era, so it had already been built upon in such a way that we could see the arguable improvement but definite update of the little superficial things and big picture ideas present. It's a nice little cycle.

I would've included both, but then I remembered his solo career

Comfortably Numb can't undo that

He wrote everything that was really good in Floyd
Peep his solo record that came out last year
It’s the closet thing to classic Floyd to be released since their final album together
Their early psychedelic shit with syd Barrett was dope too
They have influence in a stupid amount of genres
The dark side album stayed on the billboard charts for something stupid like 27 years
I don’t know what can be more swaying than that fact

Honestly, never knew who did what since most tracks are credited to Waters/Gilmour or Gilmour/Waters. Never liked Together Water's solo stuff, but I didn't listen to his newest album (mostly because I'm not a huge fan of pink floyd to begin with so I don't need more)

For the influence, see my post about why my age does matter in perception of an act.

For billboard, that more means they had a fanbase with buying power and with a preference for buying whole albums. Dark side is an album where, depending on who you ask, about 70-100% of the tracks are good, so it makes sense it could keep on the list in the second half of the 20th century.

keep in mind they still play pink floyd songs religiously to this day on regular radio

and while that seems like an accomplishment. they still play stranglehold as well.
