Writing sober vs. Writing under the influence

I know a lot of people here write while under the influence of something, whether it be weed, alcohol, molly (muff), shrooms, etc you name it


There’s also people here such as myself who only write sober.

How well do you write sober vs writing whilst under the influence of something?


Like I’ve tried writing while I was drunk and it’s pure shit, then again if I drink some coffee then brainstorm I’m able to jot down a bunch of concepts and punches etc


My questions is simple. Are you a better writer on drugs or off? Do you take shit in order to write better? Do you NEED it?

Good. I’m with you, with the exception of trying to write while drunk.

But from what I’ve noticed and peeped, there are a lot of heads that CANT write without the help of a drug. Or at least not write nearly as well

As a matter of fact I think caffeine the drug that gets my juices flowing. When I’m st the gym and the preworkout hits I gotta sometimes pause my workout for a few mins and type some lines in my phone notes with a huge grin

but i freestyle best energy wise drunk
i don't usually write drunk but maybe with a few drinks
i get random inspiration when im sober or high

i think the quality of what i write is always in the same ballpark regardless of what combination

altho adderall always had me writing 4x as much as usual and some of my best shit so that is 1 thing

No I don’t think so, see I’ve always written my stuff at the last minute becuase I feel more comfortable like that. I’ve found that if I plan out a verse i get lost in the translation meaning I overthink it.

I’ve always been a last minute writer whether drunk or sober, I just find that when I’m high or drunk I tend to extend ideas a bit more, giving me a better chance to write something that can be viewed in may different ways.

See I’m not a battle verse writer, I write poetry and topical, those 2 mediums tend to lean towards a more abstract tone, where as battle verse have to be a bit more precise and concise.

I used to only be able to write sober now ill do both, either tipsy/high to some degree. I used to think about this a lot actually. Sometimes I write better when I'm sober other times it's opposite. I tend to enjoy myself more when I'm not sober tho but if I'm too fucked up then it's obviously trash and I read more work over and do editing mainly sober. Hard to say which way I write better as though
