you used to need to use a different web browser like tor (short for the onion router) and essentially many of the web browsers iirc ended in .tor instead of .com, the idea was that it scrambles everyones ip and people can't trace what content you were viewing, and everything was anonymous. Shit was hard to navigate so I didn't really care enough to dig deep into it

but the golden age of that shit was like 2011 - 2013 back when silk road was still running, essentially it was amazon for all kinds of explicit goods drugs, guns, etc. it got shut down eventually and as far as I understand, the feds have ways of tracing people through tor now, so it's not as efficient as it used to be

the few supposed 'Red Rooms' ive seen on the deep web were actually just kinda hardcore BDSM type stuff (similar to the old insex.com website) with users interacting in a live chat with the performers and the supposed 'red room' i'd seen was footage from shorts by Remy Couture, an artist/special FX guy/filmographer, i'm aware of through his work on Inner Depravity and the documentary about his arrest in 'Art/Crime'

so yeah, while i don't doubt theres some dark stuff that has surfaced.. in fact, i'm sure of it, as i'm aware of Luke Magnotta etc.. but for snuff/red rooms i've never actually seen one i believed was real. some may have believed what they were watching, but i have an indepth knowledge of horror and extreme movies and so i'm not so easily fooled. if they were real, i'd imagine it would work on an invite-only type basis from other "trusted" users OR would require some kind of paid access to keep the time wasters etc out - which i wouldnt prepare to do.
