Are seasonal leagues a thing of the past?

No doubt you’ve all seen Sharp’s comments of recent and the SOL is now drawing to a close.

Is there a lack of interest across the board that should now lead to us planning one off PPV cards or bad blood battles etc?

It would certainly be more like the ‘cards’ were used to seeing in battle rap culture.

How frequently the PPV’s would be is another sticking point we would probably need to argue and address, but it could work.

I know Rap-Royalty had a PPV event type deal with a video hype mag that was dope to me, it got me pumped to show for it and text hadn’t had that appeal to me for a while.

It could definitely have that kind of effect.

I think it’s worth looking into.

I think it's smart. I would be able to run short summer leagues at most and it's hard to find consistency in battle mods.

The problem with no leagues is, without these six weeks of battles I don't know who would be tapped for a ppv. The BA title defense (challenger announced tomorrow) was a match partially decided by who was dropping dope. Kind of hard to tell who's gonna show for a high profile match when I don't know if they can even do 10 lines

Also, the league helped stir the shit. It's making bleak vs Flow (hammering out details now) way more interesting.

I think the PPV only model is less interesting, but it may be the situation right now

PBX on RB, it was a complete failure but that wasn’t his fault. He put out mags and podcasts and hyped the shit up like crazy. It was hilarious and dope and decent too

Rather than ppv I like events in general. The one thing I'm on the fence about offering to host is a site diss contest, for which you need enough people interested and 3-5 voters. Not too much work

Leagues are generally preferable, imo, and help make these events worthwhile

As a reader, you can pretty much switch off from reading at that point because you already know exactly where it’s going. There’s no bait and switch. The misdirection has gone. He’s already shown his hand, the rest is just a formality writing itself to me. There’s no more to be done. I think, personally, it would have worked better if he left it as gauges. That way it still has some kind of pay off to the latter half of the line, something to leave the reader with a penny to drop and realise what he’s doing. The way it’s set out takes away from the reveal. I don’t like that.
