I mean, I don't think aeroplane over the sea is a bad album, just way overhyped. I'm not a fan because there isn't a whole lot there aside from lyrics (which just doesn't do it for me) and lead to a lot of copycats with laughably superficial instrumentation (sorry Des)
Maybe I'll give it another chance sometime.
I used to fuck with the hard bop stuff pretty heavy, but the solos just take too damn long. Of that whole era it felt maybe 1/10 are enjoyable listens. Usually, for me, it's when the soloist also writes tunes. Feels like they think differently. Like Bobby Timmons or Wayne shorter on the art blakey albums (and their solo stuff) just feel more engaging to me

aeroplane just sounds like the worst experimentation possible. whoever said it clicked after 75 listens was probably right but I'm not going to be the one to confirm that. pitchfork can keep their 10.
and I'll check those guys out you mentioned. I've heard of wayne shorter before. but jazz really helps me focus on work when I have to build a deck, read a report, etc.

There's definitely worse experimenting out there haha. If you listen to art Blakey you probably heard Bobby Timmons and Wayne shorter. I can't remember what they were on together, but Timmons wrote Moanin (among other songs)
