View Full Version : When was the last time you paid for a peice of music?
Now I bet most of you are like me.. I'm early 30's.
Think abou tthis and be honest with yourselves. When was the last time you actually paid for a piece of music?
And I get it, I haven't in many a moon. I just listen to free stuff from youtube. Just like everyone else does.
But the crazy part of it, is now... everyone can get shit for free from youtube... and yes they get, if the bands or groups have sponsored by etc etc.
but no one realy buys shit anymore and im one of the worse

Still buy vinyl regularly.
Vinyl of what would be my question.
My dad 72, and I attribute my love of music very much so to him. He had original vinyl of all bob marleys stuff, WAR, a bunch of the beatles, otis redding, like my dude... soo much stuff, crates and crates and a very expensive turn table.
Well we lived in a basement apartment at the time, and there was even a basement to the basement where everything was at and it got flooded. And my mom took all that down there, like CD's are the new thing. So the turn table was done, and all the vinyl got wet and therefore warped. Haha, i'm not saying thats why my parents got divorced but that played a part.
My dads 72 and not senile at all, and t this day he brings that up. Like some unforgiveable shit. I'm pretty sure he's more mad about getting him to put that in the sub basement then when he found out she cheated on him.
It was that dead serious because my dads vinyl collection he started when he was a kid. And all of the sudden my mom said, CD's are the new thing fuck all that old stuff put it in the sub basement, my dad let her do it and it all got ruined. He still talks about it to this day.
Every month Apple Music.

Also Apple Music but I’ve bought allot of albums on my phone without Apple Music subscription
Wow I just re-read what I wrote when I was fucked up, original post. I don't normally do that because its embarrassing.
My over all point was if you're like me, and for the most part just get your music from youtube for free or downloading torrents of albums, then no one gets paid.(unless you own your own youtube channel and you get paid for the ads I'm putting that aside).
The end result, which is pretty much what it's been for years is you only make money off live shows or merch. Everyone gets your music for free now. When I was a kid, I had to buy the shit, well until napster. But you get my point... if no one pays musicians to make music...... niggas are going to stop making music.
Well you guys are better than I am I guess.

Long story short is I used to own about 3,000 records about 8 years ago. I would dig for samples. So I had a ton of 60's 70's soul/funk/jazz/rock. Got to the point where they were in storage for years and I never touched them. So I sold them off. In the last year or two I started buying only shit I actually listen to. So I have buy mostly hip hop shit we grew up on and I have some funk and soul recent shit.....and newer hip hop. All that shit.
