View Full Version : back on my J.Cole: Born Sinner.
..fucking classic.
Still think it the best album of the year, to date.
Thoughts?
not even close imo
j cole's best material was in the form of a mixtape, he's fell off from the dude i remember coming up. i think J. Metts first hit me up w/ J Cole on FG,
he was fire, now he's the Coke Zero version of Drake. like they talk about almost the same stuff
What album would you say was the best this year, so far

best album = nothing was the same
I don't know man. I've had drake in the deck for weeks. Just got my j.cole back from the homie, and its back in the deck... I think I'm much happier with coles shit "as a whole" than I am with drakes. Don't get me wrong though. Drakes shit is illy Orc
Meh. I'm not a bigg pusha fan though, he got some joints -can't lie. But he hasn't won me over as a lyricist yet
my name is my name was ill . so was born sinner
My Name is My Name is easily the top album of the year.
easily, nosetalgia is the greatest track outta all the albums, same with numbers on the boards production and lyrically and they're all on the same album.
could've been a classic if Kanye didn't touch it and just released it tbh

I agree with born Sinner. Not much I got into this year. Drakes album was trash to me. Kanye obviously didn't try & holy grail was meh. Personally, most rappers who use the n word excessively I'm tuning out.

Born Sinner is the most derivative album I've ever heard. It's a smooth listen for sure, but it's too unoriginal to qualify as good. Calling Born Sinner the best album of 2013 is saying you hate rap in 2013 and want it to sound like rap from 2003.
Mr. J has it right. Among more traditional rap albums, I'd highlight The Night's Gambit by Ka and Acid Rap by Chance The Rapper. Earl Sweatshirt's Doris, Drake's Nothing Was the Same and Pusha T's My Name Is My Name top my list of mainstream rap.
Hmmm. I havnt peeped this chance guy yet. Nor ka. Gonna have to checkem out
Yeezus? I don't know 12. It has a few tracks. But for such a short playlist I think it should have been better. There are 3e tracks I really like.. the rest are skippable imo

Yeezus is the complete opposite of Born Sinner. It's completely new sounding, not trying to impress anyone and completely turning its back on what we expect from rap.
J. Cole reminds me a lot of Little Brother with all the rap history references and reused samples. I don't consider it biting. But it's too predictable at a certain point.

nah it's not completely new sounding, step your music game up
kanye's lyrical content is hypocritical and ignorant. the beats weren't even that good, it was garbage. no good features, all of kanye's worst beats i've ever heard him use are on this album. tbh, this album sounds like shit a European or UK pop artist would use. nothing on his album is completely new sounding, just contradictory.
i'd rather listen to ray j - i hit it first 12 times than yeezus

born sinner was a huge disappointment production & lyrically imo. I like that he produces his own but he still nerds to really step up. yeezus seemed rushed.
that pusha was surprisingly dope imo. I really wasn't expecting it.. but you can tell he has grown lyrically. he use to be pretty bad imo. especially in comparison to malice

Yo Gotti's album is top 5 IMO...
Pusha's album is #1 tho...
Cole's album is good but too redundant...
His best songs were on yo Gotti's and dj Khaled's albums...
