Nah I was originally a biter on RF when I first registered as Vulgar. Then I got banned for biting on some other names from 2005-2006.

Pembroke was my buddy's account that I took over. Never bit past age 15 lol. I was a dumb kid back then.

Yes, it's true. I get called out on my past every so often but it doesn't really bother me at all. I'm a different person now, a man. Back then I was a boy who enjoyed plagiarizing, messing around and I just wanted to win battles. Pembroke was indeed a black persona lol. I'm good at pulling off aliases, which is why to this day Sir Oswald Swansberg was undetected.

What comes around goes around though, but in a constructive way. Eventually I saw some of my own verses bitten over the internet. I can sympathize with people who need to bite to feel more invincible, but I don't have any remnant left of the teenage me left inside. tbc

Someone make a real list. trap? Lars? Pent uP? Soulstice? I was away for too long to do it well. Richard Corey, Rikoshay, Sacrifice, TaLi and Vern Acular are mandatory inclusions, if we're basing this off actual topical battle competition instead of open mic verses.

That's only B-Boys and Project RHYME, not even close to encompassing the best overall. I recognize a lot of those names, though.

It's tough because you have to factor in guys like Fracture, who probably has a 25-3 record in topical battles and is one of the best writers I've come across on these boards. But he never really committed to topical battling, so what do you do with him?

....funny enough I started making a list and I have a clear top 10. An elite top 10 if u will and then everyone else is an honorable mention but not one that I think fucks with the top 10.

He probably isn't too well known due to only being active on RB (I think) but That Kid Cry is one of the best topical writers I've come across, and without doubt the most consistently dope, week in and week out.

Oats is really good too, he should be up there.

Baron Mynd in his day was head and shoulders above everyone.

No order:

Richard corey
Pulse
Rikoshay
Tali Rodriguez
Vernacular
Dicnyaeye
Blacketh
Sacrifice
3PA
Jowelz (I think thats who im thinking of)

Honorable mentions but not of that elite stature (in my humble opinion)
WWIII
Tha Talent
Baron mynd
Oats
Vulgar
Angkor
Pinot grij
Ribo nuke
Cimmerian
Black Jesus

My criteria is a mix between consistency of drops, amount participated in leagues in their era, and out of 100 battles with any one other person how many I think theyd win

The top half I think would win 95+ /100 against just about everyone, the bottom half people are just as dope pretty much except I cant see them winning the majority of battles against anyone on the top half. Idk im probably gonna catch shit for my list

Jowelz was awesome, probably the best comedic storyteller I've read, but he was lazy as fuck. Has Cimmerian ever been in a topical battle? I can't recall reading anything by him longer than 16 lines.

Your list is fine, even if I did roll my eyes at dicnyaeye. I suppose he stuck around long enough to warrant a spot. He wasn't better than most of the people on the second list, though.

Say what you will. Undefeated in rm tournaments. Beat every name there is to beat. Double digit champs, like 3 of them during the highest era while the elite were cheating. Idk seems legit for me. Certain

I was the only guy voting against Omen half the time, it seemed. No one seemed to care that his verses never were on topic.

I respected him as a writer (until of course I found out that he wasn't writing), but his style was purposefully vague. I had been gone for a while when the biting (or grand-scale plagiarism, really) was revealed, and I came back like six months later to check in and was just fucking stunned.

Let's not forget that I was screwed over by him, too. Once I beat or tied (I can't remember, but it was very close) him in a title match, voted but forgot to edit in the links and was docked based on that so that he won. At the time, I let it slide but signed out because I was a bit miffed. Now, that really fucking pisses me off.

In 2005, I would have been on that list's top three, but I'm glad to see that you remembered me at all by now. I haven't written under Tha Talent in a long time.

I used a handful of other names for very brief runs at a handful of sites, though not either version of Netcees. The ones I recall are Calloused, Scattered Ashes and Vaudeville.

JOWELZ definitely had a lot of losses bc I beat him when I was first starting in the RSTL. I would add E2 to that list, he was just as good as Cimmerian and actually topical battled more.

early on in the day i got pissed off when i was directly bit

then one day i found out this dude named delz pretended to be me to get in invite only league --- and all of his rhymes were bitten from me and butler, like his whole verse - except reworded very badly

so i thought that was the worst... until i saw muh entire 'graffiti artist' verse bit.... and that made me the most disappointed... he even left the name dynamix in it lol

then someone bit an entire verse called "my dick is so long, yours is more like hello"... and from that moment on, i never cared again.

Definitely. I keyed that entire verse just an hour after my baby moms said she cheated on me, moved out of my house, and took our son with her. Still one of my best works to date. Yeah, I had a lot to talk about and be creative with back then. Now it's just the daily grind and nothing is of interest. I found this list from TaLi. I'm fine with this list.

1. Richard Corey: This guy has been doing this shit at the highest levels for like, fuck, almost a decade now. Probably the all-around best writer, and he has this little thing that I sort of picked up on in my own style where he merges stories and topicals. Of the top 5 verses I've ever read he has at least 2 of them.

2. Rikoshay: Out of the other 3 of my top 5 verses that RC didn't have, Riko has 2 of them. This dude was a rhyming machine and I don't know many other writers who show the type of maturity he does through his words. The undisputable KING of topicals in my opinion. One of a kind.

3. Tha Talent: Wasn't always the best, but once he figured himself out as a writer, he was damn near unstoppable. I've always seen Talent as like, a combination of RC and Rikoshay, but not quiiiite all of either, so he gets third. Damn good writer though.

4. Black Jesus: Number 4 was the toughest one to pick. I went with my old pal BJ. VERY FEW people that I have ever come across in these leagues can pull off "clever" - "wit" - "humor" all that well. BJ was the best at this by far. Even if it was a serious topic, it still had this witty vibe. Can't explain it, just gotta read it.

5. Vern Acular: I kind of get the sense that people tend to think Vern is overrated. I think it's one of those things where everybody built him up so much that there was nothing he could do to meet those expectations. If you read his best stuff with a clear mind, I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that he's not one of the best. Before Vern, most people were writing paragraphs with single rhymes at the ends of lines, and nowhere else. Think about that impact...

6. SacriFICE: I don't really know how to explain SacriFICE's style. A lot of people start writing a verse with their mind focused on how they can possible make their rhyme schemes make sense. SacriFICE doesn't have to think about it; he just is it lol. Sometimes he loses me a bit with where he's going but when he doesn't, it's an awesome sight.

7. Pent uP: Read his sig. I meant what I said and it still stands. Well, actually he's stepped it up so he words shit better and rhymes better and flows better, but he still writes stuff that is reeeeeally hard not to relate to. Good mix of stories and topicals. One of the best around these days.

8. Howard Winter He might be ranked higher if I had seen more of his stuff but all I've ever seen is what is in this league, and when it's good, it's fucking great. Great concepts, really good writing, unforced rhymes, dunno what else anyone could ask for.

9. Three-Planes-Aligned: His record sort of lets him down because I think he lets himself down by not bringing his best every week, but like Winter, his best is among the best there is. He competes and beats the best in every league around that matters. Come to think of it, he reminds me of Winter because above all, it's the creativity of his concepts that strikes me above all. Mechanics aren't half bad either

10. Baron Mynd: I know it's hard for a lot of you to swallow this selection, and I don't blame you, though we get along, Baron has done a looooooot of asshole shit over the years and he's about as conceited as it gets. But fuck it, he has good reason to be proud of what he writes. I love to nitpick his wording sometimes, I think he worries too much about rhyming sometimes, but I can't argue with the fact that his shit is still really good.

Honorable Mention (IN ORDER)

Cormier: Almost there. One of the best storytellers around and he's getting to a point that a lot of storytellers can't, and that is: Ability to tell a good story AND have really strong mechanics and flow. Look around seriously, can you count more than 5 people who are strictly storytellers who have any sort of flow?

Nique: Probably the best flow in writing I've ever read. One of the best rhymers ever; the rhymes are pretty much NEVER forced. My biggest issue with Nique was that her mechanics always seemed to overshadow her content. She had good content for sure, but I still don't feel like I've seen her defining piece, at least yet.

Anaphora: This is kind of an oldschool pick, but he was always one of my favorite people to read. He always had great ideas; the question was always: will he step it up enough in the mechanics department to make it work, and as he evolved, he started getting to that point. I just wish he was still around.

Atheist: This dude was a reeeeeeally good storyteller. He was largely a one-trick pony but he abused that trick relentlessly. My issue with him was always his mechanics of course. He had long lines, and as he evolved, he started getting his rhymes better, but I still found it hard to get the flow. It was always a long read, but generally a very good one.

DIC: Here's another dude everyone hated/hates. I kind of see DIC as a poor-man's Black Jesus. His best pieces are some of the best I know of, but all too often, I think he got too carried away with rhymes to the detriment of his wording and content. All things considered though, he was still pretty good.

Richard Corey and I have unfinished business. We went 2-2 against each other in the RSTL, so I went to Project RHYME for a battle to settle things, and that ended up tied, something like 8-8.

http://www.projectrhyme.com/forums/f77/classic-wbl-topical-match-richard-corey-vs-tha-talent-4-11-05-a-143/

I always thought he was better than me, though. One of my two wins against him was complete horseshit. Back then, I would write based on my opponent and expose their flaws through my own verse. So I came up with a really creative angle with a solid twist that appealed to voters (it was about a Teddy bear), and I beat one of the best verses I've ever read from him.

we did a discussion like this at PR once and besides the order of my top 10, i do believe it still stands (to me). this was my list.

When i think of ill writers, i usually go with people whose pieces are most memorable and who's archive i constantly visit, heh. with that said, here are my top 10:

in no particular order:

Richard Corey - ghetto cause and effect/ the reason she keeps in her eyes
Tali Rodriguez - empty vessel/ Fast food religion, anyone?
Howard Winter/Talent - Joseph and Mary piece/blast from the past; two great opals/twisted ladder to heaven
Baron Mynd - Elephant Man /White Christmas...man...
Dynamix - The Graffit Artist/My first word...thats all he needs
Black Jesus - wrote one of the best cancer piece ever.
PentuP - knight in tongueskin armor...piece was serious.
3pa - sometimes i log on just to read his stuff. dope, dope writer.
Nique - All aboard the relationSHIP. not to mention she's beaten a lot of top writers, out there
Rikoshay - http://www.netcees.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=20.

honorable mention
Vern Acular - 100+ battle victories = no joke
B.E.- And i dont' even think she's in top form yet..just imagine...
YMFB - A newer cat, i think, but i fuckin love reading his stuff
The Return - read his 4th dimension piece.
Ender - amongst the best in term of creativity.
