from a shuttered window high in an apartment building
lonely notes floated low to father feelings
in those who passed by.. they knew the players mood
feeling his tears in wavering notes he struck to self improve
not knowing of the vast amount of fans who felt his malady
with a heavy heart, broken and alone, he played his melodies
each sonata's chosen from a void his wife once filled
now with life so still, hope lies in these ivory keys
anyone who knew her said, "the music keeps alive our memories.."
Susan used to dance and sing playing guitar, covering songs
a mother all along, she played classics, assuaging passage to age
he often passed the days and nights next to the stage, to the right
her strength, wisdom, and partner for life, it's
hard for them alone, but together they did alright
now he spends all night on her side of the bed
crying instead of american dreams, staring at seams
she sewed in the curtains, made when times were worse
it felt like he was cursed while nursing the wound
but as time progressed he learned to play and was soothed
and on the day when the grooves engraved like braille told the tale of his favorite piece
he played along with his lover, touching fingertips one last time, and lay deceased
