It would make sense, but it's probably a red herring.

I thought so too at first
I'm still not sure
not much of a twist at the end if they already gave it away
I just can't figure out what else would make all the hints fit

There's a lot out there already, but the title of the episode was "Vesuvius," which apparently has only come up once before in the show's long history: Ted was doing a crossword and thought the word "Vesuvius" was an answer but realized it didn't fit. The fan-theory websites (seriously, there is more written about this show than any sitcom ever) all seem to view that as an indication that this episode served as a red herring.

They mentioned Vesuvius at least one other time. I believe he asked the editor of the crossword puzzle why it's used so much. Or it wasn't that episode but Ted mentions he knows they use 'vesuvius' a lot due to the vowels.
