THE RESSURECTION


Intro: The No Show Continues
Last week was terrible..
It was the first week of championship and contendorship matches, and the first champ match was won by no show. We had 11 of you drop verses, but only 3 battles were able to recieve votes. I don't see whats so difficult about dropping 10 lines a week, I understand that occasionally shit happens but you can chalk up the majority of no shows thus far to laziness. Even with the due date being moved back a day nothings changed. A lot of you have signed out (more on this later) this past week so maybe new blood will help improve the situation. Historically we've had 1 week where nearly all of you show up followed by a week of no shows. This leads me to believe that this week should equate to a good showing, but with the league at an all time low in terms of participation, only 17 of you are signed in this week, who knows what will happen. One things for sure - the show must continue.. but hopefuly not the no show!

Before taking a look at this weeks action let's check out what happened last week in this weeks..

Battle Reviews

Top Ten:

Championship Match: 1. Te Ora (4-0) vs. 2. da big glassman (3-1)
da big glassman was very sick in this match, but not the kind of sick that wins battles. He no showed and allowed Te Ora to gain his fifth win on the trot, by default.

Contendorship Match: 3. presyce (3-0) vs. 4. Dilated Eyes (2-2)
A battle that went right down to the wire. Neither showed very strong at all, and voters had a hard time deciding who was more mediocre. Dilated won this 3-2 on a swing vote, but who knows what the outcome may have been if more of you had bothered to vote?

5. Fletcha (2-2) vs. 6. ThaMenace (3-1)
Fletcha was too busy talking shit in Dodg.. I mean doing ‘coursework’ and was unable to find time to drop against ThaMenace. Menace requested the extension, dropped a decent verse and got the win by default.

7. JonJonOyes (2-2) vs. 8. Joe Native (2-2)
Decent battle. Joe dropped well before Jon, giving Jon the golden opportunity to catch him sleeping. However he failed to take advantage of this and while he had a few cool concepts his execution left a lot to be desired. Joe scooped all the votes in this one and claimed his third win.

9. Misunderstood (1-0) vs. 10. Fohkus (3-1)
Fohkus caught Misunderstood on the comeback trail as he looked to rebound from a controversial loss to Te Ora a week prior. Misunderstood was trying out a new steez, and this inexperience may have cost him the win against a more comfortable Fohkus. Fohkus won this one by a few votes and looked fatigue as he signed out.

ABL:

11. MC J3RSEY (1-3) vs. 12. Godsplan (0-0)
Godsplan was keen to catch an underperforming J3RSEY on the hop, but a major calendar malfunction robbed him of making his first bout back a success. J3RSEY took this one by default and got his season back on track.

13. MIC REKKIN BASTARD (2-2) vs. 14. Pyr0 (0-4)
Pyr0 must’ve been staying at Godsplans house, as he too failed to show. He didn’t check in until the last day, where upon MRB told him off and took the win by default. MRB signed out and continues participation in the league in a reporter capacity.

15. Franchise (1-3) vs. 16. sp!tf!r3 (2-2)
Franchise had the chance to rub salt into the wound of sp!tf!r3, who came into this off a shock loss to Dilated, but failed to capitalise. He too no showed (AGAIN!) and sp!t claimed the win by default.

17. doodydean (1-2) vs. 18. War Machine. (0-0)
No one knew who War Machine was coming into this one and they still won’t after he failed to turn up for his first ABL match. doodydean showed and it was enough to give him a 50-50 record.

There was a lot of no shows this week, so selecting the best battle & verse seems a bit pointless. Instead the mag will be used to display 3 good verses which won't have got many reads considering their opponents no shows:

6. Misunderstood –
Is attempting a comeback to anotha and looks hungry. Has the spotlight on him (more on this later) as he looks to rebound after conceding a close loss to Fohkus last week. Seems uncomfortable with the conventions of modern day anotha text battling, but still appears a formidable presence in the league.

5. sp!tf!r3 –
Fell victim to an elevated Dilated a couple weeks ago but will hurt anyone who sleeps on him. Hasn’t really established his own mould, but is only a verse away from really breaking out.

4. Dilated Eyes –
Provided the upset of the league a couple weeks ago against sp!t and has been improving week and week out. Really only in the championship match because of his effort against sp!t and wins against a few other lacklustre verses, and will have to elevate a lot to reverse the outcome of his rematch with Te Ora. Word is that he’s talking about signing out – I hope this isn’t the case as he is an improving and valued participant in this league.

3. Joe Native –
Has proved himself a prolific disser in managing ongoing beefs with ER and IS, while retaining a respectable ABL record. Will need to focus entirely on his opponent to progress to the title match this week though.

2. Menace –
The only other original battler who hasn’t lost a battle yet, his loss column consisting of a no show from a couple of weeks ago. Look for him to show strongly in the contendorship match this week as he looks to claim the championship.

1. Te Ora –
Undefeated. The ABL’s first champion and doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon.

I was mad fatigued by the time I found out I had to do these but anyway here's this weeks..

I'll probably win this.

presyce will win this. Why, you ask? Because sp!t placed his 'Common Sense' column and schoolwork (I know wtf) over writing predictions this week.

Jon is used to sonning people so I think he has the edge in this one. Word up

Franchise probably won't check in. Kontext will ask for the extension and then forget to drop.

13. Godsplan (0-1) vs. 14. Mephistophelean (0-0)
Lmao @ this one. I googled Mephistophelean and that shit means devilish or something, so you could say this is a battle of opposites. If Godsplan isn't gay he'll use that as a concept. I've never heard of Mephistophelean so Plan is getting this by default right now
15. Axcell (0-0) vs. 16. Pyr0 (0-5) vs. 17. War Machine (0-1)
Axcells name is vaguely familiar, so I think he has a good chance. Pyr0 drops half the time and is due to drop this week but War Machine will probably no show.

Last week, Misunderstood was matched up with league powerhouse Fohkus and he allowed Anotha to see a different side of him. Their battle is still being voted on and between finding people to vote on it, Misunderstood took some time out of his day to answer some burning questions about his return.

On his return to the Anotha forum:
"(The ABL) probably (made me return)... I was visitin' and I thought battling again would be cool."

On whether competition at PromisedLand.com was challenging or easy:
"Meh... not really. It was three rounds, I guess. Three battles... I won them all. Competition wasn't that hard, but there were some who were better than who we have in the ABL."

On the weakest and most talented emcees in the ABL:
"I ain't gonna' answer that, but it's tough competition and I think it's better that way. The negativity is that people are scared to vote. Also, they vote like, 'You didn't vote for me, I ain't gonna' vote for you.' That's some wack s--t."

On the organization of the league:
"The 'only battlers can vote' rule is dumb... it's keepin' the interest of the other members away."

On being on other sites besides Anotha:
"I haven't been on too many sites, but I think Lyrical Utopia is going to be a good forum. Other than that, Anotha is a quite good forum, but it was way better in old times."

On what made him change his style:
"You guys... the only style appreciated today is that stupid new style. I don't like it, but some brainless dudes only get the simple ones."


Beef Of the Week

As a few of you may have noticed, there was a pretty interesting beef that took place last week between two participants in the ABL. Those participants go by Fohkus and Te Ora. Apparently there was a heated argument encompassing accusations of flipping that were exchanged between the two, as well as disses.

Fohkus fired first with “Cup of Te”

The diss was promptly responded to by Te Ora, who claims he keystyled almost the whole thing. the diss was titled “Flip the..”

Both of the partakers in the beef had their side of the story to it.

“I thought he flipped my line in a battle....n one of menaces too..n then he was bitchin then i did my diss he did his...n thats bout it” was Fohkus’s 2 cents

Te Ora’s outlook on the whole thing was “basically what i recall is him saying that i flipped his line.. and then i explained how my line was very different to his. he also tried to say i bit menace's nameplay on him. i then said something about how he's a known flipper so his accusations don't mean much. menace told me fohkus was dissing and i said "lmao @ writing a diss" in the thread. from there we argued some more.. i provided a few examples of his biting john hensley and nyce, and he was like "wtf, i'll admit i used to flip but i don't no more" or something like that. i deleted the shit so it wouldn't sway voters tho”

Te Ora states his opinion on Fohkus and the flipping situation as follows:
“I don't think fohkus is a bad battler.. I think he should fohkus on make his punch lines off personals more often so that if he isn't actually flipping it doesn't look like he is. I still read his verses and think I'm seeing double.. A lot seems like I may have read it else where. I think he's at least still using played shit.”

Fohkus also had something to say about the alleged flipping Te Ora accused him of:
“Well... I think most of the "flips" he said I did weren't flips... Just played concepts or summin that's bein said a millon times like ‘u can be hot’ and some weren't even similar like the mag one we had...the rest were on sites I’m not on. And for the battle Te Ora flipped my lines for sure in my opinion.”
