Andre 3000 and fatty were his cell mates adjacent to him in prison, andree was the chess master and fatty was the con man. When they said theyd take him with them they didnt mean straight away as he was not mentally ready. The whole movie he is not being conned by them he is being taught to let go of his ego so he can become one with them. Hence the elevator scene where he fights with his ego.

To me.... what i gathered from this movie

Is that its just a metaphor using a modern day gangster flick to compare the minds battle against the ego describing various defense mechanisms used to combat it.

None of the characters are to be taken literally as they just represent different actions/reactions that occur in the mind based on the ab9ve menti9ned scenario at hand.

Take ray liotta for example. He represents the ego. Although yes....people interact with him and major plot themes revolve around his character, hes only as real as the mind allows him to be as are his "cellmates". Ultimately the entire story is a depiction of the mans mind and the internal struggle vs his ego.
