I'm going to be traveling for much of the rest of the year, and I'm no photographer but in my past travels I enjoyed fucking around and taking photos, gives you something to do while not doing anything. but idk, I'm debating on getting a camera/lens kit and I'm unsure. Not sure if I'll really use it, or if I want to be constantly attached to technology and the like, and being real I never look at any of my old photos and end up just throwing them on a hard drive. is it worth it? $350, which is affordable but I'm also pretty tight with money/could find many other uses for $350 nah mean.

Camera seems like overkill. Do you need professional level manual focus?

no, but all my hipster photographer friends tell me to go canon over other brands just because they last longer. it's not so much the type of camera that will sway me so much as the core concept of, do I want one?

I honestly don't know the first thing about photography other than playing with effects and manual focus and shit in Forza 4

good deal, get it. you will reap the rewards in a few years time looking back on your trip. but dont let taking photos stop you from experiencing what is happening in the moment.
