The Departed had the most obvious and hackneyed symbolism I've ever seen in a serious film. All the visceral, gritty violence and great dialogue is dampened entirely by the symbolism. It was a Lifetime Achievement Oscar for Scorsese, basically.

TWBB was based off a novel, obviously the symbolism is going to be nutso. the characterization in The Departed was masterful.

Take back your sonned right now, Knux.

Characterization? Srs?

Are you srs?

A bunch of Boston accent hard-ass cops? Mark Wahlberg playing Mark Wahlberg? Jack's worst acting performance, maybe ever? Question mark? Dicaprio was the only decent acting in the whole shebang. WTF are you talking about? I'm pissed now. I wish you would get roasted again.

BAGS HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT DANIEL PLAINVIEW'S SOCIOPATH TENDENCIES!?

What about the religion?

The milkshake!? THE ABANDONED BOY!?

How did all those things make you feel? I felt all of them, in my cockles.

lolwat

just ignore the Boston accents tbh. you're way too focused on the premise/ scenario over how it plays out... Yes, the characters seem like cardboard cut outs from a gangster film, but when put into motion and watching how they play out as a result of their character, it's like a chess match of motivations and relationships in the context of two flawed factions

TWBB was just dissatisfying

I remember twbb being boring as fuck..like paint dry type of shit.

PancakeBrah

No, Split.

They WERE cardboard cutouts. If you look into it, it's a well done and gritty cop flick based on a better film.

I say good day.
