Honestly, had he of been just a little bit taller...like maybe a 6'5 or 6'6 guard he would of been the best to ever play this game. He already had excellent scoring ability, but you give him a little more size and add some athletitism to his game Philadelphia would have won back to back titles instead of LA.

u would have saw him win in the 2000 olympics but he was hurt
and when he went the USA was sleepin on other countries.
to be fair to that USA team, only three teams before them won gold in a row. that's hardly dominating
we lost in the 80s cuz we used college players but still, college talent should be on the level of other countries regardless if we are supposed to be the catalyst of the entire sport
and I don't think we exactly dominate the FIBA tourney now a days neither
i think Spain always win the basketball in the Olympics nt sure tho Ed, if so idk why

Prolific scorer, electrifying alot of times.
Detrimental to the team tho, immature, ball hog, overly arrogant.
Didn't have the right mindset to be a champion, had he had that.. he would be one of the greatest of all time next to Jordan.

he could have been great. but he was just an overrated scorer that shot constantly. he was a GREAT college player though. he actually had a vertical then.
and top ten? I could name five players that are better then he was in his prime that are playing right now
Lebron, Kobe, Durant, Carmelo and Wade
obviously Kobe and Wade are past their prime, but their prime was better than AI's. the other three are better right now than Iverson ever was

He is one of the worst high-volume shooters in the history of the league.
if you don't understand stats, just say that
brb going 10/25, scoring 30 points.
His career field goal percentage, combined with the amount of shots he took, makes him just above-average as a player. Horrible 3-point shot, too.
Philly
06-25-2013, 02:02 PM
You don't actually understand basketball cake, it's okay.
It's tough to make a high % of shots when your team needs you to score 30+ to win...
and the same time the other team knows no one else will hit anything consistently, so they all help.
The Heat buying Lebron and Bosh made all three members of the "big three" shooting percentage go up.
If Lebron was sent to Charlotte next year you'd see a big drop in FG%.
Plus AI willed his team to victory with 30+ points as the smallest person on the court usually

Typical bro-fan logic.
Been in too many sports debates with people who think like this. I could bring out advanced stats and arguments/articles from basketball writers infinitely more versed in the nuances of the game than you or me that basically turn your bro-fan arguments to shit, which they are. But it won't matter, because people who think AI is some great of the game are past being able to reason with in any sensible manner. They're little kids fascinated by pretty colors. There's no room for logic.

lmao sports writers dont know the game better then hard core fans man because they just write well its why they got there job. stats dont mean as much as you think at the end of the day. ai had a high shot percentage because he had to take alot of shots for his team to even come close to winning a game. did you watch the games? because i watched for every game i could back then nba league pass etc and u could see it clear as day. if u pass a ball to 5 people and they dont score and 10 other people is shooting and they dont score then you take as many shots as you can

Too good for his own "good".
The man had talent but couldn't capitalize on it... Scratch that! Wouldn't capitalize on it. He could'a pulled a Lebron and left to play for a team that would've surrounded him with greatness, but homeboi was too cocky. Ball hog. But he was a beast!
Also, if he could've marketed himself better, he'd be making mad money right now. He'd be like a Charles Barkley or Barry Sanders in the public and someone like ESPN wouldn't think twice about putting him on sports center to cover games or some shit.
Funny this topic came up because I had this debate with myself a few months back. Dude accomplished a lot as an athlete but could've accomplished so much more!

Greatest to never win it.
Barkley is in my top 10 God Of War
Excellent scorer, phenomenal ball handler, tough as nails, and that's about it. Anyone saying top 20 or better is out of their mind though. As a point guard, he's top ten, but no way overall.

Safe to say he was the best player ever that was 6 feet tall or less?
Rookie of the year in that potential best ever draft class we were talking about
He led the league in steals per game 3 years in a row...
11 time all star, 2 time all star MVP, 4 time scoring champion.
6th all time in points per game. 2nd all time in playoff points per game after Jordan.
Go fuck yourselves

Do they recognize it? Homies got the P. Mac named after him. Short for Pete Maravich. Dude was undeniably good, too bad he died so young. Very underrated player in my opinion

Larry Brown refused to play them. they sat and watched most of the games.
ok heres a real question since we cant agree on shit
is Allen Iverson the best player to never win a title?
i got Ewing and Barkley ahead of him on that list
Sir Charles easy.. Favorite player and one of the most aggressive on the court. Dudes got gold Olympic medals. Shouldn've won a title somewhere. Ewing's a second nod for me. Both played with and against some of the best players of all time!
yeah def not top 25. It's debatable whether or not he's even the best PG to come out of that draft.
Thing is, he's too one-dimensional to be great. He's the best pure scorer of his generation, but that's one facet of basketball. Props to his MVP and scoring titles, but that's about the end of his ledger when it comes to anything significant (ROTY isn't that big of a deal tbh). When he was playing, the eastern conference was the JV compared to the West, and he only managed one finals appearance. Compare that to Jason Kidd, who took an equally untalented team to the finals more than once, all the while not being a great scorer. AI was an individual talent, didn't make anyone around him better. That's the mark of a great player.
Top 10 guard, possibly top 30 all time, but his career isn't impressive enough to warrant that upper-echelon of all time.

great list. I have no complaints with those players. I might throw Clyde Frazier in there somewhere but im biased as a Knicks fan.
so exactly who would you AI lovers take off that list to add Iverson?
Frazier is a beast.
Not to mention guys like Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Jason Kidd, KG, Dirk, etc who are all debatably better than AI all time. Iverson is AT BEST top 30, but even that's a stretch.

isiah thomas wish he had the toughness of ai. that alone puts him waaay above, then he has WAY more ball skills. Only thing Thomas had over AI is court vision. Which is good, but no. (top 20)
Karl Malone (top 20)
stockton (I might can give you that but personally imo no, top 20)
Ewing (top 20)
Moses Malone

glad you took the time to type out nothing for me to read then
I'll take it as a win, trust me.... thank you, and try again next time
right, cuz AI's one MVP and one finals appearance in one of the worst conferences in NBA history is better than people who won multiple rings, averaged triple doubles over the course of a season, are considered top 3 in their position all time statistically, etc etc. Just google the accomplishments of all those people you crossed off for AI. There really is no debate whatsoever except "AI has DA COOLEST crossover eva!"
