SHORT-VERSE (10-LINE) TOPICAL TOURNAMENT SIGNUPS

IF YOU WANT A SPOT, there will be signups to be a reserve soon.

Here's the deal: I'll run a short-verse topical tournament. It'll either be 16 or 32 people, plus a handful of substitutes. All topics will be phrases (such as movie and book titles).

There will be magazines for every round, but they won't be long, like the verses. My thought is to go 10 lines for the first two rounds, 12 for the third and 16 for the final. (If there are five rounds, we'd go 14 lines for the semifinals.) I also might just go with 10 lines throughout the tournament.

The first-round battles will be posted Thursday and the magazine Friday or Saturday. (The first magazine will be good and longer.) Check-ins will be mandatory for the first round, by Monday.

Verses will be due Thursdays, with voting ending Sundays. That will be true throughout the tournament.

I've been in more than 200 topical battles. I like challenging topics. For a short-verse tournament, those kind of topics don't make sense.
