I'd say research foods that are good for the thyroid and immune system, apply supplements as needed. Don't eat anything out of the sea from over there, check infant mortality rates and flux along the Western sea board and ease your way inland for correlations and comparative reports, I'd also watch the patterns of the weather from over seas. Invest in waterproof shells if you're exposed to long periods of rainfall, and invest in potassium iodide. It's only prolonging the inevitable but hey, anything is better than nothing.
