you need an ear for it honestly, but most good beatmakers have there own sound or "style". the way they approach chopping, drum sounds, basslines etc. if you go listen to 5 dj premier beats you'll be able to discern his sound from anyone else. go listen to 5 alchemist beats in a row etc. although alch gets pretty diverse
