Its not just because it was soul samples but what he did with them was actually complex and the beats were crazy. These past few albums are retardedly simple production wise in comparison.

But i'll check it all out again. I was gonna wait for my second listen of pablo tomorrow in my truck. I might as well download the other 2 as well.

But as i remember it its basically the opposite. His work was much more complex before he turned to synths and simple bangin drums

I find it hard to believe you cant find anything worth salvaging on this album.

Admittedly, Kanye's last two projects have been my least favorites. MBDTF was super average to me, and when everyone talked about it like it was the best album they've ever heard it kinda made me dislike it more cause of how overrated I felt it was. Yeezus may be "ahead of it's time," but it's also not my cup of tea.

On this record, Chance murdered Ultra Light Beam, Cudi made Father Stretch My Hands dope (pt. 2 was kinda dope on it's own). Don't like Famous. Feedback sounded like one of the better records to come from Yeezus-era kanye. High Lights is a dope Young Thug song. Freestyle 4 was meh. Waves is cool; mainly Breezy. FML was cool; Weeknd. Real Friends is dope. Wolves was okay. Didn't sound much at all like the record he had played/performed a year ago when Sia and Vic were on it. 30 Hours is dope. Beat is hard as fuck. I actually don't care much for No More Parties. I won't skip it, but I won't specifically play it either. He turned Facts into one of the dopest songs on this album by switching up the beat. Fade is meh.

Yeah, I think 4th-5th is a fair placement.

Not better than the first three, but definitely a better album than MBDTF and Yeezus.

@uh-oh, turning "Strange Fruit" into a song about wishing your fiancee had aborted your daughter is one of the greatest moments in Kanye history. Honestly, I love every second of this song. Every time I listen to Yeezus, I play it at least three or four times.

I think there are plenty of reasons to not like his music now, and autotune is one. But I don't get how anyone familiar with his process can call him lazy or uninspired. It's far more valid to say he's focused on the wrong things and overly perfectionist to the point of tinkering.

Finger poking at synth horns with a simplistic 808 bassdrum, 808 snare and the note repeat hihats is lazy. The random vocal stabs and the keys are the most complex part of the beat you posted and its simpleton shit.

You can be a perfectionist with the mix. You can be a perfectionist with the arrangement. But its still nothing compared to his "dreams" beat he did for game.

I can calll it lazy and uninspired because im familiar with his process.

He used to be like a gourmet michelin chef or whatever. Cooking complex meals, now he makes a good cheeseburger and maybe serves it with some seasoned french fries. He can perfect the burger all he wants. Its still a burger.

And dont get it confused, im not saying its bad from a technical standpoint, its just not awe inducing. Im not intimidated by it. Kanye was someone who made me wanna quit making beats even as a hobbyist. Because i couldnt fathom being able to do what he did. But with beats like this i can wrap my head around it.

I don't like Tom Cruise as a persona, but he's entertaining playing roles as an actor. Kanye is pretty much Kanye in a majority of his music, and he's not someone who's views and opinions I care for. His personality is off putting. It's female to not want to put speakers into my ears playing the words of a man who I don't agree with? I think it's a 'female trait' for you to say that.
