Omicron Magazine: Round 2
Overall, we had 7 battles with 28 competitors signed up for round 1. Amazingly, there wasn't a single noshow. Apart from Bags/James, all the battles were also fairly competitive. I was actually pleasantly surprised how close some of the battles turned out. FatGingerZ vs Smack, Fresh/evaD vs Quill, Resin/Saint vs cum boyz, Blue chews for jaden vs Ryno/Spree were all battles that I felt could've gone either way if we had just selected a different group of voters. That's a surprising percentage of battles for round 1. Going into round 2, the competition is only going to get tougher, with 8 remaining teams battling it out and any one of them capable of making it into the finals.
Also, the majority vote was to increase the number of lines in round 2 to 12 lines per team. That's 6 lines per competitor. Contestants can still go over this line limit if both teams agree, but this line limit was put in place to reduce the number of noshows and speed up the voting process, which was already a little sluggish in round 1. Before we discuss the round 2 battles, let's recap what happened in round 1: ROUND 1 CYPHER HIGHLIGHTS Best performance: Blue Bayou This isn't really much of a question. Blue came out with about 50 lines and nearly all of them landed. Here are some highlights: Quote:

ill nik-A/Bags vs Aero/Dominate Quote:
Dom/Aero secured the most votes in round 1, and were given the power to give any team a bye round in round 2. Instead, they elected to bring back Sharp/MAC, who some might argue should have advanced via DQ due to all the politicking, and the rushed nature of closing out the battle didn't really promote a clear winner. Still, they're the only team in round 2 who lost, so they have something to prove if they want to move up in the rankings. Fresh and Dave were thrown in last minute for a wild card match-up but they came with a solid showing. There are still question marks about whether they can work together reliably in the future, and a noshow feels like a possibility from either one of these competitors. With resin being a noshow, answer/bare were able to pull out the victory against inf in a handicapped match. Although every battle with answer in it is a handicapped match. These two still have more to prove, and it's not gonna be easy to advance to round 3 if they need to go through Dom/Aero Barc and lars have oddly been quiet. It's hard to rank them higher at the moment since Bags/James didn't put up much of a fight in round 1, but they put on a good performance and done exactly what they've set out to do. Ryno/spree put up a tough fight in round 1, but ultimately frac and des were able to prevail. Round 1, they leaned on frac to do a lot of the heavy lifting with des only writing 4 of their 12 lines. I think if they want to be successful in the future rounds, they're going to need to share the load like eskimo sisters. The fatgingerz round 1 win didn't come without asterisks, but they put on a formidable showing and came away with the W by any sways necessary. I don't anticipate that strategy mixed with writing their verses last minute will work for long. Blue/Zuch flew under the radar a bit for me in round 1. Granted, they didn't really need to pull out all the stops to win unanimously versus Defiant/Spoken but there were a couple other performances that caught my attention more than the one stamps put together in round 1. They still seem like a favorite to wind up in the finals, but time will tell if one of the other incredibly talented teams can pull off an upset Dom and Aero were already ranked pretty highly, but my concerns of them noshowing in round 1 were for nothing. Not only did they show, I personally felt like they dropped the verse of the round. So it's no surprise that they find themselves at the top of the list, but they need to prove that they can perform at that level consistently going into round 2. ROUND 2 UPDATED BRACKET: ROUND 2 PREDICTIONS: 1. Stamps vs 7. Bars This match-up should be interesting to the say the least, and very well could wind up being the battle of the round. Lars/Barc have been surprisingly quiet during this tournament, but they always put together a consistent performance and I know Zuch is chomping at the bit for this battle, and Blue never runs out of fuel. This one should be a close match-up, but I have to say the odds are in Stamps favor based on their dominance on the text scene the last few years alone. Prediction: Stamps 60/40 3. FatGingerZ vs 4. Blue Chews for Jaden This could wind up being another battle that becomes increasingly personal since all these people know each other fairly well and are active discord members. Des only contributed to 4 lines in his battle last round, and I get the feeling that Seth and User are more motivated to go all the way in this tourney. Prediction: FatGingerZ 60/40 8. cum boyz vs 2. Advanced Placement Another possible showstopper featuring 3 out of 4 HollaFront alumni. Aero is always a wildcard, but he looks to be dialed in, and Dom isn't showing any signs of rust. With the increase of lines from 8 to 12 per team, consistency could be a key determining factor in the outcome here. Prediction: Anyone's game 50/50 10. SMACK vs (N/A) JaysonFresh/Evad Smack is back, and they've got some stiff competition in fresh/dave. I think as long as they show, dave/fresh are seriously talented competitors that may just find themselves in the finals. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sharp/Mac pull off a win here, but they're probably not going to have as many personal angles to fall back on this round. Prediction: Fresh/evaD 60/40 Last edited by Answer; 01-13-2022 at 11:52 AM. |

Dope mag appreciate the quickness. I thought the 50/50 prediction was cute but let's be real.

All battles are open for votes. Please contribute if you’ve participated in this tournament, and feel free to drop a vote even if you haven’t participated. I know a lot of these battles are going to be neck and neck and will need a lot of votes to get a decisive outcome and ensure this runs as smoothly as possible
