Ronaldo had a better 2014, Messi himself even admitted that, but overall I would say Messi just about edges him. There is nothing that man can not do with a football.

His performance against Man City on Wednesday night was flawless, it blew me away, I didn't think after all this time he could do things I wouldn't expect but clearly he still can lol.

Although, maybe if I was older I would not be so sure about Messi, because Maradona was a fucking genius too. It's between those two for me, then Ronaldo, then George Best, then Zinedine Zidane, and THEN Pele who I can not really rate among those others due to not seeing enough of him play, but from what I have seen I'd say he belongs in the list. I do think he may be a bit overrated tho.

No. Greatness is a measure of both ability and accomplishment. You can't be the greatest ever when you haven't really shown it in a World Cup and your club teams have underachieved at least slightly.

Fair point, there is less of an emphasis on winning the World Cup these days simply because the champions league is a much higher standard of football, but I do agree, it's hard to call someone the greatest if they haven't won it, great players carry teams and win games alone, Messi has yet to do that for Argentina when it really matters. He's still relatively young and has probably 2 World Cups left so we shall see if he ever gets his hands on it. I'd imagine the next one is his best chance as he will be over the hill by 2022. The Barcelona team of a few years ago was probably the best I have ever seen.

New question - is Messi the most talented player of all time?

I should also say that at club level nobody has ever had the impact both Messi and Ronaldo are having...it pretty much looks like, by the time they retire, between them they will hold all records possible, in terms of attacking players.
