do you read text battles>? if so who are your fav battlers to read? any battles you read recently come to mind that you enjoyed?
I watch video battles on Youtube, first off. Secondly, I am seldom impressed with any battles that I have read here. No I really don’t. I think @Battlemastapatrick is a genius though. I just think a lot of you can’t rhyme, and are really basic. I like making the complex simple and making the simple complex. I honestly cannot remember one line right now that stands out to me. Pretty much, as long as a guy like Ill-Nik-A is considered dope, I might as well say that you are all perpetually slamming your wangs in the car door. Fair?

how does the ongoing Veritas Bags saga end? I think its become a bit apparent that a simple fire fight spanning multiple threads for a couple days on end just simply is not going to be enuff to send one of us packing......so how can this fued be won?

so as i was digging thru the archives and checking out the other seasons playoffs checking for a classic battle i came onto our very first playoffs. They say you cant fight the past but we gonna put that challenge to task today. so ive paired up the match ups id like to see and done some predictions for each.


Seyance vs Toil


this is an interesting one here. Seyance is better known for his topical talents although he did win a fight night around the same time as this playoff tourney. the style back then was a bit more harsh and straight forward. toils wording is better in a more intricate fashion and his concepts are more creative. seyance was aced out of the first rd of this tourney and i feel like hed see the same fate here against toil in a pretty clean body.

Blue Bayou vs Allen Knight

blue bayou was the first person i read back when i came back to text battling in 2010 that really just had me FLOORED. his wordplays just blew me away. i mean granted i hadnt seen a level of text that nc was displaying ever. i stopped texting back in 2001 an every1 back then was pretty mediocre. allen knight is the current wordplay guy. i love this match up cuz the similar styles would just be a great show to see. for me i like blue bayou in his prime on this one....but it could be cuz im a fan boy.

God of war vs Hush (present day)

man I personally am digging this new style Hush been working with this season. bringing the shit back to basics. pulling away from the overly complex wordplay reaches and just focusing on clever similies and metaphors. God of war always had a really direct punch style of his own as well. Im sure this went down way back wen maybe a fight night? couldn't tell u but I got hush in wat would likely be an instant classic.

Barcotic(2010) vs kenny the og

this would be CRACK. idk wtf Bar trynna do this season with some of his shit. hes having an awkward transition to the new trending style and its apparent in his win/loss and verses in general but 2010 Bar went on a tourney winning spree only comparable to @ALIEN at the time. dude was a threat. Kenny really coming into his own and seems to have shaken most of the rust off if there is any more left I would say its not a factor. id give the slight edge to Bar in this one. dude was just hungry back then.

Murda sho vs Cred

this the one man. this the gun bar throwdown we all wanting to see. @murda sho SHOW URSELF COWARD. I mean idk how to call it or how to hype it.....its almost a damn mirror match although I will say murda sho is more inclined to throw out a personal punch on an opponent a lot sooner then cred. i think in the end a couple sharp personal jabs would give the voters something to split the decision and ultimately sho would take this one down. definitely one for the fans.

Larkin vs MFTastick

alotve u prolly don't even remember Larkin unless u were active around that time. He was pretty well regarded, member of CLA$H he was the L or was that @lefty? speaking out of turn on an era that was a liiiiiiitttttttle before my time but maybe some of the more seasoned vets can correct me here. anyhow MFTastick is currently our ONE HITTA QUITTA KING though his verses are still riddled with misses. expect MFT to have the LOTB but lose the match on consistency.


Beyond vs Junto

lol im wicked clever. THEYRE THE SAME PERSON. there is no way i can have tagged @Beyond this many times without him coming back to lurk......and with a competitive tourney like this going on no less? he would log in. i am sure of it. @john hensley was lurking the site just last week peeping an announcement thread i tagged him in and hes normal. bey bey and team alpha are still in a deep dank dark basement chained to a computer monitor with a cybatronic laser eye scripting text verses in preparation of the chyinnnpocalypse as we SPEAK. but like yo. if it truly is him he has lost a step in my honest honest opinion. i give this one to old school beyond with more creative concepts and crisper wording.

Orc (Present day) vs Lefty

I threw these 2 together just so i could speak on the significance of their first battle honestly. orc was essentially mid tier on nc until he beat @lefty in the NBL. i kno...thinking of orc as a mid tier battler is crazy. we all started somewhere tho. orc has only gotten stronger with time imho......though maybe lazier....this would be close but for me lefty was a whole lotve swag selling average bars. don't get me wrong....wat he did was in no way easily duplicated or defeated....just to the more studied eye the bars weren't as valuable as advertised to me. i got orc in a clean one here.

Shadenfruede vs Nick James

Shade vs James haha this one would be cool. @Knux absolutely pulled nicks soul from his very person in nbl season 7. i don't dfeel like digging for the battle but i mean nick could never and never did come back from that verse. i think w this time frame prior to that he may have the edge on a hit or miss shade although if it was the shade we got in week 20 itd be a dif story. 50/50 on this one.

Alvin karpis vs Cashius

not sure if this ever got to happen? i feel like by the time cash appeared on the seen @Alvin Karpis had already lost his motivation and edge/ regardless way back wen he was a problem. straight forward punch line style that truly defined his era. cashius is more wordy tho a bit more complex. i like karp in this one just based on the style clash benefiting karp here id say.

Infiltration vs Ill nik-A (2010)

we don't have the actual NBL season 1 archives here thanks to @David Lama but ive read them. I was blown away to see nik literally crushing the top tier elite amongst names such as @Hush, @Tettris, @ALIEN and others that r mostly only mentioned these days on lists of legends. infiltration is steady becoming an NC household name but man i don't think he fucking w nik in arguably his prime.

Orc (2010) vs Ill nik-A (Present day)

haha was cool to see that some of these guys were in the very first playoffs ever here and have made into the present day playoffs 6 years later. speaks volumes towards these guys level of talent and ability to adapt. present day nik is a beast. tho creative almost to a fault, old school orc was hungry and a student of the game. i like young burd in this one here if im calling it 100.

Oneduh vs Blam Newton

not sure the order im going to put this mag in but with the reveal of blams alias it gives this battle a whole new look. Oneduh was the other battler when i first came here that just absolutely blew me away. it was @oneduh vs @bluebayou and i think they went 16 or something. crazy crazy battle. blam or should i say the man behind the blam is a phenom on nc tho. this a toss up here. i think blams hard straightforward personal style would take it tho. for me blam is not a great generic puncher but if u give this guy personals to work with....which oneduh has....hes unstoppable.

Jilti vs Sutherland

So this one is interesting I feel like I paired these two up fairly well. both are capable of stand out bangers but also tend to have misses that hurt their verses from a consistency perspective. they also both have unique styles that just feel different then the day to day NC verse. I like this match as a sleeper fav. call this one down the line. 50/50

Bags vs Deon

oddly enuff I was around when @Deon was fairly active and we never got to shoot it out. He was on his way out at the time. Id be lyin if I said I wasn't a fan of the ole @hotdogvendorman. awesomely creative w the concepts and smooth as fuck w the wording. id like to think I took a few queues from the dude. He even accused me of stealing his bars LMAO. that's that shit I don't like. for that id cut this fat fagots throat. got nothing but bars for this fagot. come see me.

Destroyer vs Sound

lol @sound became a running joke around here after his personal life was exposed but this mag not for jokes. as a writer this dude was harsh and clever as fuck. the finals of this playoff was him vs GOW. god of war won but it was debateable. Destroyer da god forever But I got sound taking this one rather handily.....although this may have happened on des way in and sound way out>? either way like I said destroyer is the obvious winner here. vote destroyer. also im casting my vote for des in his first rd match up now also. 1-0.



well at the end of the day I had it 8-6 for the old school squadron (2 ties) although alotve those could swing either way and those "ties" obviously would've had winners. id like to say im being extremely realistic in saying the the level of competition present day is damn close to where we were at in what some of us consider netcees golden age.


Bracket Talk & Predictions





I don't think im being unfair by saying that the bottom half of the bracket has a bit of a rougher road to the title here as im looking over the battles. I mean it could be said that the bottom half is all show w a bunch of big names and the top half has the hungry hitters of the season. Ultimately every1 is a threat here but I figured id just speculate on the bracket as im sure im not the only one who has looked at this and tried to figure who they will be battling in the later rounds.

1)Bags (7-0, 1.0) vs 16)Jilti (7-6, .538)

yea im gonna predict my own match idgaf. i don't even get to enjoy this awesome ass fucking tourney im putting together and bad enuff im not getting the hype i deserve cuz i cant very well brag about myself in every section lol. Lets be serious tho im undefeated and in rare form. jilti is not on my level. plain an simple. u disagree make ur voice heard. this a clean one for me tho. easy.

2)Orc (11-1, .917) vs 15)Cred (9-7, .563)

this one gonna be fire. cred will step up his game here id imagine, i mean he has to know hes facing one of the best in the playoffs if not the favorite to win the whole thing. i think orc will cruise in this one tho not giving cred the him(HA GET IT HIM IS CRED) he deserves and in the regard will make this one closer then it would be if orc went full throttle. still got orc in a dope one.

3)Cashius (7-1, .875) vs 14)Blam Newton (8-5, .615)

this will be fire. Kenny went crazy against orc imo. i just don't think toil has had a performance close to kennys in week 20 aside from maybe his verse against cashius earlier on in the season. if both go all out this one gonna be a classic. sleeper pick for botw. ill rock with Kenny tho, he seems like hes picking up steam and really looking to take sum heads off in this tourney.

5)Allen Knight (4-1, .800) vs 12)Destroyer (10-6, .625)

i got destroyer here/ but LOOK this is a tuff draw for the sway storm deskembe troytumbo. u never want to see allen knight staring at the other end of ur rd 1 battle for ANY tourney let alone a tourney that sum1 with a HOF status would still actually consider as an accomplishment worth adding to their resume. i have a bad feeling des should be preparing those sway threads to go along w his verse. got allen in this one. but destroyer will definitely win like i said.

6)Hush (6-2, .750) vs 11) Schadenfruede (12-7 .632)

unsure what to expect here honestly, hush been seemingly pretty busy and been on a small text break since he lost the title to orc earlier on in the season. if he shows up its bad news for schade. i will say tho that schade had his verse of the season in week 20 and hush would be stupid to sleep on him.

7)Ill Nik-A (5-2 .714) vs 10)MFTastick (4-2, .667)

2 of my favs to literally just read recreationally. ive read nik verses and been creatively inspired to the point where id gone and sat down to start penning something right then and there......no lie on the other end in the past few weeks before writing i would peep whatever verse MFT dropped to get me in the zone to put some shit together. excited for this one. niks got it unless this is the week MFT hones his hit or miss style and loads us up w bangers in every line.

8)Infiltration (13-6 .684) vs 9)Junto (6-3 .667)

another crazy match up here. the defending season 8 champ vs the up and coming new blood KILLAH. im leaning to junto here as his style is generally more well received but i think both have the same size fan base and equally complex concepts w clean wording. this one will come down to execution imho. ill call for junto but would not be surprised to be proven wrong.

these 2 have battled numerous times exchanging wins and losses alike. anybody that's a fan of the game should be tuned in when these 2 go at it and this battle was a great example as to why that's true
